Dear All

Last couple of days one user getting the following error

8/16/2018 2:16:38 PM - Remote Server at [z.z.z.z] (z.z.z.z) returned '550 4.4.7 QUEUE.Expired; message expired' 8/16/2018 2:14:40 PM - Remote Server at [z.z.z.z] (z.z.z.z) returned '441 4.4.1 Error encountered while communicating with primary target IP address: "Failed to connect. Winsock error code: 10060, Win32 error code: 10060." Attempted failover to alternate host, but that did not succeed. Either there are no alternate hosts, or delivery failed to all alternate hosts. The last endpoint attempted was z.z.z.z:25'

Don't have any clue. Can anyone help on this issue. Is it exchange issue or AD server or the mail gateway.

I am using exchange 2013 in windows 2012 server.

Updating very old installation of Exchange Server 2013

$

Hello Everybody. I've recently started a new job where I have to do system maintenance. They are running two exchange 2013 servers. Their Exchange servers frequently experience issues. The first thing I did was to check if they are up-to-date.

I ran:

Get-ExchangeServer | Format-List Name, Edition, AdminDisplayVersion

Which returned:

Name : MF-EXCH2
Edition : Standard
AdminDisplayVersion : Version 15.0 (Build 516.32)

Name : MF-EXCH1
Edition : Standard
AdminDisplayVersion : Version 15.0 (Build 516.32)

According to this list: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/15776.exchange-server-2013-and-2016-build-numbers-with-cumulative-updates.aspx, that means that Exchange hasnever been updated...

I definitely want to update these servers as soon as possible.  I am a bit afraid of breaking the whole domain. I've read that I have to prepare the Active Directory for Exchange updates. They have on Primary Domain controllers, and two backup controllers.

All the other servers have been updated, I'm afraid that this cocktail of old and new software will explode in my face. What upgrade path should I follow?

I'm also doubting if I should go straight to the latest CU, since all CU's are full installs of Exchange. However, Microsoft only test the last three versions if they release an update.

If I understand it well I have to upgrade one server at a time, following this sequence:

1. Put the server in maintenance mode.

2. Prepare active directory

3. Take the server out of maintenance mode

This seems a bit weird to me, because that means there will be (for a short time), two active exchange servers running different versions of Exchange. Is this true, or will this cause mayhem ? I also read that there is an GUI tool for this, that does all of this for me seamlessly, is that true ?

If you can help me I will be forever grateful!

Adding new MSX 2013 servers to existing organization - problem with DAG creation

$

Hi,

We recently retired our remaining 2007 MSX servers and were left running with a pair of 2013 MSX (SP1) servers in a DAG. We bought two new servers and installed Server 2012 and MSX 2013 with the latest CU with the intention of creating a new DAG, new mailbox databases and moving everyone to the new machines.

I finally got the new machines installed and patched, then this morning I went to create the DAG. It seemed to create OK, but when I click on it in 'database availability groups' the right hand pane shows 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object'. I have added the two new servers into the DAG successfully though.

I did select Configure DAG networks manually (not sure if that is important).

I can find a few articles on the net with similar issues, but none of the suggestions seem to work. I initially had IPv6 unticked on the MAPI nic's but turned this back on, we also tried restarting the clustering service on the machines and rebooting, but none of this has made a difference.

I am planning to leave it for a couple of hours in case this is a replication or other issue, but I was wondering if anyone had any other ideas on what to try to get this working?

Next step will be to delete and re-create the DAG.

Thanks in advance.

DNS (local) for Ex2013 & Ex2016 co-existence during migration

$
0
0

Good afternoon!  Current environment is multi-site Exchange 2013 CU20 DAG deployment with split-DNS, multiple mailbox databases.  We're about to install the first Exchange 2016 CU10 server in a co-existence configuration prior to beginning migration (eventually will be used for in-place archive server in the 2016 DAG, but for now only migration & backup testing).  This question is only related to configuration of *internal* DNS records for mail and autodiscover for the purpose of the co-existence.  The first Ex2016 server will *not* be used immediately; it will be used for backup testing and test migrations.  Internal DNS is currently configured with two (2) mail records pointing at 1.2.3.4 & 1.2.3.5, and two (2) autodiscover records pointing at 1.2.3.4 & 1.2.3.5.  Let's assume our new 2016 server will be 1.2.3.100.

I have read in multiple locations that a) all autodiscover client requests have to come into the Ex2016 server, which will then proxy requests back to our Ex2013 servers, and b) the ONLY autodiscover records in DNS should be pointing at the 2016 server (ie, no records anymore for the active 2013 DAG members).  Is this correct?

Next, how do I configure my *internal* DNS to meet whatever rules are required for co-existence?  Do I need to:

1) add another autodiscover record to the round-robin DNS entries, leaving a total of three (3) autodiscover records?

2) do I add one autodiscover record for the new Ex2016 server and delete the other (older) records for my existing Ex2013 servers (thus killing redundancy)?

3) leave only the older two (2) records in DNS, and Exchange 2016/2013 will "magically" do it's thing?

I've read lots of documentation, but not a single piece details what happens EXACTLY to DNS records to get co-existence to work correctly.  I understand that 2016 will proxy requests, but I can't seem to find any documentation on how to configure DNS up to making that happen. The same thing applies to the mail record above, but I'm assuming that I don't need to configure that until I'm ready for our 2016 servers (two production servers in addition to the above in-place archive server will be setup and deployed in the same domain).

I don't have any questions or issues related to virtual directories or certificates, so please don't refer me to documentation on those items specfically.

Thanks!

Hi I'm new to PowerShell and I've been attempting to migrate an Exchange 2010 SP3 Public folder to Exchange 2013. I'm following the directions found athttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj150486(v=exchg.150).aspx .

I have gotten to Step 3 .\Export-PublicFolderStatistics.ps1 <Folder to size map path> <FQDN of source server>

It runs the command but when it attempts to write the CSV to the drive I get:

Move arbitration mailboxes fail in EAC migration tool

I have selected the Microsoft Exchange mailbox SystemMailbox{e0dc1c29-89c3-4034-b678-e6c29d823ed9} and the correct (ver=15) target, but the batch fails. Running the "get-Mailbox -Arbitration...…..(etc)" cmdlet in powershell shows it still listed as the Ver 14.3 database. I can see no options to get around this.

MRSProxy unreachable in Hybrid migration with Exchange 2013

$

Hi all !

I'm currently unable to complete a mailbox migration between Exchange 2013 and Office365 in a Full Hybrid migration because the Migration Endpoint cannot be created.

The only related error messages are for instance the Test-MigrationServerAvailability returning the error code 503 saying something like the MRSProxy service is unavailable and IIS logs showing codes 503 and 401 with access denied.

I've parsed several forum and technotes discussing about this and tried the following suggestions with no success so far :
- manually disabling/re-enabling MRSProxy via ECP
- admincount attribute set to 0 in AD
- setting same value to msExchExternalHostName and msExchInternalHostName

We've got one Exchange Server 2013 holding all roles but EdgeProxy.

Until recently we also had a distinct server dedicated to external access  with only the CAS role but we finally uninstalled it because the ReplicationService would not start on this server.

And of course the Test-MRSHealth reports that everything is OK.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Content Index Unknown State after Exchange 2013 CU15 update

Hi guys - I have just upgraded to CU15 and when checking Get-MailboxDatabaseCopyStatus | FL Name,*Index* I receive the following:-

Name                         : MDB1\CERBERUS
ContentIndexState            : Unknown
ContentIndexErrorMessage     : Could not find registry value of Index Status for database

ContentIndexBacklog          :
ContentIndexRetryQueueSize   :
ContentIndexMailboxesToCrawl :
ContentIndexSeedingPercent   :
ContentIndexSeedingSource    :
ContentIndexServerSource     :

I have tried all the usual fixes.

Deleting content index folder and restarting Search services.

I have also created a new database and migrated mailboxes across, hoping a new DB might fix it - no luck..

This has not resolved the issue, as I suspect the registry keys are the issue here.

When checking HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ExchangeServer\v15\Search\IndexStatus there are no keys present.

This is a single Exchange 2013 server, so I do not have another server to copy the keys from.

Any ideas?

nitpicking on the EAC/ECP/

$

this would be fine if there is only a single Exchange admin, but we have several, delegated admins, i've been asked all the time why the EAC url is "https://exchange-server.com/ecp" and not "https://exchange-server.com/eac" .

i thought maybe that's a 2013 thing and it would change in Exchange 2016. but when i checked some docs, in Exchange 2016 it is still referenced as "https://exchange-server.com/ecp" .

so, sorry for being nitpicky, but can this URL be changed?

missing ms-Exch-Extension-Attribute 1 to 42 for users on a Windows Server 2012 R2 DC

Hello all,

after a Schema extension of a AD forest with Windows Server 2012 R2 domain controller with MSFT Exchange 2010 SP3, alle ms-exch-extension-attributes do exist in AD-Schema starting with 'CN=ms-Exch-Extension-Attribute' but if I check attributes of a user account in root domain of the forest, there are no msexchattribute to find.

We did run Schema- and Domainprep. In our case we don't install any exchange server 2010. We need only msEA14 for testing of FIM synchronisation.

I had to choose 'Exchange Server 2013 - Setup, Deployment..' by asking my question in this forum, because Exchange 2010 is out of support.

Thanks,
