Co Existence of Exchange server 2010 and Exchange server 2013

Hi Guys,

I have a confusion with my Current set up and I hoping someone can help me solving this Issue. so I have running exchange server 2010 Environment and I have also smart Host for exchange server for the outbound Mail flow and For In bound mail flow we are using a Virtual web server (Sophos) which is routing the Traffic to internal Exchange client access server.

and Recently I have introduced Multi role Exchange server 2013 to my Environment.

steps which i have already Done

  • Configure the Auto Discover
  • Configure the Certificate and services with Correct Namespaces.
  • Configure all the Internal and external Client access name Spaces.
  • Configured the New Mailbox Databases.
  • Testing the server Configuration.
  •  Create new Exchange mailbox on the Exchange server 2013.
  • I have checked the Send and receive connector set up and they are automatically Set us they Should be.
  • Made auto-discover test and as well as the sent and receive emails.
  • All seems to be working with New exchange 2013 mailbox

I have question about how is this Working , my Interface Facing server is still the Exchange 2010 server and what should i do to make sure that Exchange 2013 Works as Internet facing server and then it can down Proxy to Exchange 2010.

I hope I have made my Self clear , please guys any tip will be useful.

Thanks in advance.

Can't migrate Public Folders from Exchange 2010 to 2013

I'm following the procedure as per this Microsoft article:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj150486(v=exchg.150).aspx

However at the New-PublicFolderMigrationRequest step (step 5 - migrate Exchange 2010 folders)  I'm getting the error at bottom.  Anybody know what could be causing this?  It certainly seems to be able to access ATLAS.  I've tried using atlas.es.tv, tried using just the name of the PF DB, nothing works.

Hello Everyone,

I've been installing Exchange servers since Exchange 5.5. I'm now installing Exchange 2013 with SP1 that will coexist with one Exchange 2010 SP3 server. I'm installing it on 2012 R2 Enterprise Edition. There is a root domain and one child domain. The Exchange Server is in the child domain.  Even though I've run the .\setup PrepareSchema, AD and domain and all were successful I still get the message below when running Exchange setup. If I look at what /preparedomain does it seems like it has done what is needed. I've run the /prepareschema, /preparead and /preparealldomains in the root domain & have even run /preparedomain over and over in the child domain. Like I said everytime I run these they are successful. Oh and my account belongs to all the right groups needed to run these. Any ideas would be appreciated!

The local domain needs to be prepared using Setup /PrepareDomain before server roles can be installed.

Installing RU14 for Exchange 2010 SP3 produces Error code 2771

We are running Windows SBS Server 2011 with Exchange 2010 SP3 RU6 on the same box (non virtual). I have been trying to run the latest rollup RU14 and can't get beyond this error. ( I have tried earlier RU packages, downloaded new copies of RU14 - same error code each time they are run)

Here is the error message:
"The installer encountered an unexpected error while installing this package. This may indicate a problems with this package. The error code is 2771."

In the event log there are 2 MsiInstaller entries: Events: 10005, 1023

10005
"Product: Microsoft Exchange Server -- The installer encountered an unexpected error while installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2771. The arguments are: AdminTools, ,   "

1023
"Product: Microsoft Exchange Server - Update 'Update Rollup 14 for Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 3 (KB3151097) 14.3.301.0' could not be installed. Error code 1603. Additional information is available in the log file C:\Users\netadmin\AppData\Local\Temp\1\MSI8348.LOG.  "

I have run the RU from a command prompt with verbose logging and have the log file. In looking at it, I'm not sure what to look for.  Attached is the log file.

Has anyone successfully worked through this issue? Any thoughts on what I need to do here?

Thanks, DLP

Hybrid Deployment, Migrations and Database Size

We have Exchange 2013 in a Hybrid deployment with Office 365.  When we migrate mailboxes to Exchange Online, does that free up space on the local Exchange database?

Anything we need to do to reclaim that space?

The critical property 'Database' is missing in the ADUser object 'Contoso.net/Users/Username'

Any Suggestion, how to fix this issue?

name space vs certificate requirement

Hi There,

I have build one Exchange 2016 on-prem and also registered a trail version O365 for my learning purpose.

my name space is mail.domain.com , therefore OWA URL: https://mail.domain.com/owa & OA name space: mail.domain.com

my autodiscover internal URL is currently set to: https://autodiscover.domain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml

my autodiscover external URL is currently set to: https://mail.domain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml

I have a public DNS A record mail.domain.com pointing to my reverse proxy and I'll do SSL offloading at reverse proxy.

Following are my questions,

1. Will I be able to manage the third party SSL certificate with just single SAN entry , mail.domain.com?

2. or do I need to compulsory have autodicover.domain.com in my certificate SAN entry?

Exchange server 2013 CU7 - RelinquishedWlmStall While importing PSTs into the mailboxes

Hello,

I'm trying to more than 5 import psts into the mailbox server Exchange server 2013 CU7. Only 1 is active and rest all are in the state of RelinquishedWlmStall.

StatusDetail: RelinquishedWlmStall

Message: Informational: The request has been temporarily postponed due to unfavorable server health or budget limitations. MRS will attempt to continue processing the request again after

I have other two servers exchange 2013 with SP1, there are no issues on those servers.

All the three servers are in DAG and if the database is active on CU7, i'm facing issues. I guess some changes were done on WLM level.

I have increased the values in the MRS configuration file as below and restarted the service, still facing the issues.

Do we have to change the WLM App settings? Resources are huge: 64GB RAM, octa core processor.

Exchange is limiting it somewhere, how do i change it? Its only on-premises exchange server no hybrid.

Hybrid Configuration - Email Address Policy

$

Hi All,

I'm hoping someone could provide some guidance and assistance with the preparation/update of email addresses, email address policies and address books.

Currently we ahvea n on-premise Exchange 2013 server and we are an education institution with staff and students. All staff have their mailboxes in the on-premsies Exchange server (to be migrated later) and students have all of their mailboxes in Office 365 (exchagne online).

Staff email addreses are name@domainname.edu.au
Student email addresses are name@student.domainname.edu.au

As the on-premise server was originalyl configured for staff only, there is just the default address book policy. This policy has the rulesalias@domainname.edu.au as well as alias@domain.mail.onmicrosoft.com

The on-premise Exchange server has been configured in hybrid mode and all student email boxes have been configured as 'remote mailbox'. The target address in active directory for each student points to alias@domain.onmicrosoft.com

What I would like some assistance with is:

1. The default Address Book Policy doesn't have the options to modify which users it applies. Currently it applies to all staff and students, therefore students are incorrectly configured with an email addressname@domainname.edu.au rather than name@student.domainname.edu.au
Do I need to create two new address book polices, one for students, one for staff and then remove the default address book policy?

2. The student's are configured in Active Directory and sync'd to O365 with AAD Connect. The attributes in AD for mail and SMTP: showname@domainname.edu.au. As they only have a remote mailbox in Exchange, I need to edit the attributes within AD to change to the correct email address. I haven't been able to cretate a powershell script to modify all users in the Student OU to either remove the default incorrect email address and then add the correct email as default, or modify the default SMTP with the correct address.

3. I am also looking at sperating users into various Address Book Policies as per the Education example below. I know this references on-premise Exchange server, so I'm not sure if i would run the same commands via Powershell while connected to Exchange Online https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj657455(v=exchg.150).aspx

Preparing for CU12 Update From RTM Exchange 2013

So i am currently in the setup of exchange 2013 and exchange 2007 in coexistence . At the moment i have not switched to 2013 as the mains server yet but i have migrated a few users to exchange 2013 and all works fine. Exchange 2007 still handles all external communication as i have not switched my ips/dns etc yet. What i want to do is upgrade exchange 2013 to latest CU12 before finalizing the switch so that i wont have to do it afterwards that EX2013 is going to be the main server .

My question is . I have read that sometimes when installing the CU update from RTM an issue comes up regarding the receive connectors :

During an upgrade of Exchange Server 2013 to a new cumulative update some customers may experience an issue where setup fails, leaving the server in a non-operational state.

The error the setup throws is:

Mailbox role: Transport service FAILED

The following error was generated when “$error.Clear();$connectors = Get-ReceiveConnector

-Server $RoleFqdnOrName;foreach($connector in $connectors) { if($connector.MaxLocalHopCount

-gt 1) { Set-ReceiveConnector -Identity $connector.Identity -MaxLocalHopCount 5 }};” was

run: “Microsoft.Exchange.Management.SystemConfiguration

Tasks.ReceiveConnectorRoleConflictException: The values that you specified for the Bindings

and RemoteIPRanges parameters conflict with the settings on Receive connector

“EX2013SRV2\Test”. Receive connectors assigned to different Transport roles on a

single server must listen on unique local IP address & port bindings.

I have run this script to check my connectors beforehand :

$connectors = Get-ReceiveConnector;
foreach($connector in $connectors)
{
    if($connector.MaxLocalHopCount -gt 1)
    {
        Set-ReceiveConnector -Identity $connector.Identity -MaxLocalHopCount 5 -WhatIf
    }
}

And i got no errors my out put was:

What if: Configuring Receive connector "TTSERVER\Default TTSERVER".
What if: Configuring Receive connector "TTSERVER\Windows SBS Fax Sharepoint Receive TTSERVER".
What if: Configuring Receive connector "TTSERVER\Windows SBS Internet Receive TTSERVER".
What if: Configuring Receive connector "TTSERVER\Enigma".
What if: Configuring Receive connector "TTSERVER\submission".
What if: Configuring Receive connector "EXCH1\Default EXCH1".
What if: Configuring Receive connector "EXCH1\Client Proxy EXCH1".
What if: Configuring Receive connector "EXCH1\Default Frontend EXCH1".
What if: Configuring Receive connector "EXCH1\Outbound Proxy Frontend EXCH1".
What if: Configuring Receive connector "EXCH1\Client Frontend EXCH1".
What if: Configuring Receive connector "TTSERVER\Exchange 2013".

Does that mean i am ok to proceed with the update without any fixes or is there something i must do ?

Exchange 2013 hardening

Hi Team,

Is it advisable to install exchange 2013 server on pre deploy windows harden os template. OR to do exchange hardening manually. Also please share standard hardening document for exchange 2013 recommended by microsoft.

Setting up Naming Conventions

For the purposes of sorting certain email address, such as conference room, distribution lists, and other resources, what special characters can be used as the first character and what are the rules for alphabetization?  (I'm assuming standard ASCII coding by default)

For example, can I do

_DistributionList1

_DistributionsList2

&ConferenceRoom1

&ConferenceRoom2

Of course, the actual names would be more descriptive.  The goal here is for distro lists and resources to show up at the top of the address book when users need to look through it.

Thanks

Outlook anywhere 2010 / 2013 / O365 hybrid

Hi All,

I'm hoping one of the guru's here can clear up my confusion on outlook anywhere.

We have an Exchange 2010 and 2013 environment, along with a Exchange online presence.

We recently configured Exchange 2013 outlook anywhere and noticed it overwrote client settings (Outlook 2010) on all clients with mailboxes on 2010, 2013 and Exchange online.

From my understanding, we need to also have Outlook Anywhere configured in the exchange 2010 environment. If I set the OA configuration in 2010, will it overwrite the configuration on all clients that was set in exchange 2013?

Thanks in advance.
