SAN values for backup server

3 CAS and separate 3 MBX DAG is my 2013 environment. Since most of the end user systems are not connected to my Domain, I had deployed 3rd party SAN certificate where local CAS server FQDN's also included and enabled internally/externally.

Recently I deployed an Arcserve backup and while restoring mailbox contents on mailbox servers, seems its failed with certificate issue. I assume it is trying to locate a mailbox server FQDN on a certificate and failing. Is it so?

Can we introduce one more local exchange certificate including all the SAN values and enable it for Arcserve?

Exchange 2013 DAG: Network (Firewall) Question

$

I am working out the last bit of kinks and getting ready to migrate to my Exchange 2013 DAG Server(s) VMware environment, (From my Exchange 2007 bare metal server).

I have a question regarding networking. (I apologize if this is not the proper place to post this question, and if it isn't, let me know where I should post it).  I have a Cisco ASA 5505 firewall that currently has NAT rules and access lists that coincide to my Exchange 2007 Server for passing\filtering email.

My question is this: Do I need to create new rules that tie to each one of my Exchange 2013 Server IP's, or can I point everything to my DAG Virtual IP address, and the emails will flow to whichever server has the active database where the respective mailbox resides?

I'm hoping the latter will work, otherwise every time I decide to add a new server to the DAG, I'll then have to add all these settings into my firewall.

Thanks for your thoughts and consideration.

Email stuck in drafts

Hi All, I've got a brand new exchange 2013 standard environment set up, but I can't seem to get mail flow to work at all. When I try and send a message through OWA, it simply gets stuck in drafts.  I haven't changed the MX Records yet because I don't want to break their existing pop3 email until I get this fixed.  I tried setting up a subdomain as a test, but I get the same results.

Need to uninstall second Exchange server 2013

I have my first Exchange 2013 server up and running for quite a while and it is running great.  I had the need for a second Exchange server 2013, so I installed it and all is fine.  Our company plans have now changed and I need to remove the newly added Exchange server.  I do NOT want to affect the main server.  Can anyone tell me how to safely remove the second exchange server?  When I try from Add and Remove programs, I get the following error:Error:
Uninstall can't continue. Errors:

multiple certificate for multiple domains

$

Hi All,

I recently installed Ex 2013 in our environment.  We have two domains setup to receive mail from domain1.com and domain2.com - I created certificate request for both domain names in Exchange but for some reason when I ask third party company to provide certificate for all the domains (including autodiscover.domain1.com and autodiscover.domain2.com) - they only gave autodiscover.domain2.com.  I am ok with that as half of the users have domain2.com email accounts and domain1.com users do not care if they have to go to autodiscover.domain2.com/owa for webmail. The problem is when users with domain1.com email account opens up Outlook they are getting certificate error about autodiscover.domain1.com.

How do I solve this problem?  Should I create a new certificate with autodiscover.domain1.com or should I ask  certificate provider to give me new certificate and renew the certificate in Ex 2013?

Exchange OAB Migration from 2007 to 2013

Afternoon all

I'm stuck in limbo with what to do next in regards to the current server migration issue.

I have been migrating an SBS2007 box to a new Server2012 Hyper-V running Exchange 2013. I have moved all the users over, everything from the old exchange has been disabled in services and now im in the decommission process for the SBS.

I have noticed when uninstalling the Exchange it asks about the OAB role, i fully well know i can just open up ADSI edit and remove this to continue with the uninstall but the last thing i want is my client to loose all of their contacts in outlook!

i don't really know my Powershell that well! and this exchange migration is quite new to me, i would like to know how do i check (from the end users machine) to see which OAB they are currently DL'in from? and to check the information in each of these stores.

I have run the command to do a check on the active OAB's and can see two, one on my SBS and the other on the new exchange. I would like to know how (if possible) to move the current information from the old OAB into the new to prevent me from deleting all the contacts while im trying to uninstall the old exchange.

Might be very vague but if you need more information then please let me know will provide you with information.

Creating a Migration Endpoint issue - 2010 to 2013

Hi guys,

I have a exc 2010/hosting and I will migrate it to the 2013. The trust is ok and the first part of the script worked fine. ./PrepareMoveRequest.

Now I need to create the migration endpoint but I got some issues on it. Both has a valid 3 party cert. I added all information on the fields but I received a message saying that:

"

We couldn't detect your server settings. Please enter them. AutoDiscover failed with a configuration error: The migration service failed to detect the migration endpoint using the Autodiscover service. Please enter the migration endpoint settings or go back to the first step and retry using the Autodiscover service. Consider using the Exchange Remote Connectivity Analyzer ‎(https://testexchangeconnectivity.com)‎ to diagnose the connectivity issues.

Remote MRS proxy server:
The FQDN of the Exchange server that the Mailbox Replication Service (MRS) Proxy is on.

"

So I provided this FQDN and it still didn't work.

The test https://lab2010.host/EWS/mrsproxy.svc is fine also.

It's gonna use the same domain on the destiny so during the migration process I've created a subdomain "migra.domain"

Do you have any idea about it?

Delete System and Arbitration Mailboxes after Office 365 Migration

$

Hey all,

We successfully completed our migration of all user mailboxes from our on-premise Exchange 2010 server to Office 365, and would now like to decommission the on-premise Exchange 2010 server. We have a separate server that we are leaving on-premises for management, which only has the EMC and no mailbox role. But the old mailbox server should be decommissioned now. It has been turned off for weeks with no impact. We have removed the hybrid configuration. MX records and autodiscover are all moved. DirSync is in place and working.

When attempting to uninstall Exchange 2010 from the old mailbox server, we are getting the error "This mailbox database contains one or more mailboxes, mailbox plans, archive mailboxes, or arbitration mailboxes." and cannot continue. The error suggests either moving the arbitration mailbox or disabling the mailbox if this is the last server in the organization. Since we don't have any other mailbox servers, there is nowhere to move it. And disabling the mailbox makes me nervous because though this is the last on-premise server, I don't want this to affect our cloud services by assuming we are decommissioning the organization. What do we do with the system and arbitration mailboxes?

We have read the article here but it does not fulfill our specific need: http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2012/12/05/decommissioning-your-exchange-2010-servers-in-a-hybrid-deployment.aspx

Also, and I'm not sure if this is a separate topic, how can we make sure that removing this on-premise mailbox server will not remove mail attributes from our user objects?

Thanks!

Exchange 2013 - Event Error 205 and 16025 - No DNS Server could be retrieved from network adapter

Application Event Error: "No DNS servers could be retrieved from network adapter 00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000. Check if the computer is connected to a network and Get-NetworkConnectionInfo returns any results."

This is on a fresh install of Exchange 2013 in a Exchange 2010 environment where the Exchange 2010 server has the following roles: Mailbox, Client Access and Hub Transport and the Exchange 2013 server has: Mailbox and Client Access.

Currently, all mailboxes and Hub transport services are on the Exchange 2010 server. The new Exchange 2013 server does not have a Hub transport role and I am not creating an Edge Transport role.

Get-NetworkConnectionInfo does appear correct.  The server is running as a Hyper-V guest and is using the Microsoft Hyper-V Network Adapter.

I tried going into the EAC and changing the DNS settings to use this adapter for both internal and external DNS.  It all looks fine when I run Get-TransportServer <name> | Format-list

Any suggestions?

Thanks... Chrsi

Free/Busy Between Google and Exchange

Our organization currently uses a University-provided Google Email Service.  We are considering moving to a hosted Microsoft Exchange service and would like to continue being able to use integrated free/busy scheduling for staff/resource calendars on both systems.

Can anyone point me to appropriate URLs/Documentation that describes how to setup integrated free/busy scheduling on both the Google side and on the Exchange side?

Thanks

Connecting Outlook 2013 to Exchange 2013

$

Hello everyone and thanks for your help in advance. I have installed a new Exchange Server 2013 server and want to connect Outlook 2013 to the server. Here is where I am confused. Initially I would like to use a self signed certificate and I see Exchange 2013 automatically installs a certificate on the default server. In older versions, you would navigate to the certificate server and download and install the certificate on the client machine prior to configuring Outlook.  But I am not sure this is necessary, or how to download and install the certificate on the client.  Any help would be appreciated.

Exchange 2013 SP1 installation fails at Transport service 97%

Good afternoon, all!

I'm setting up a new Exchange infrastructure in our company.  The setup I have is very similar to this posting, except that I have double-checked the IPv6 on both domain controllers and the new 2012 R2 server that Exchange will run on. This server is the first in a planned four-server design: two CAS/Mailbox and two Edge Transport servers. We don't use IPv6 internally yet, so all the IPv6 configs point to link local.  The error after Transport service timed out was:

Error:
The following error was generated when "$error.Clear();
          $maxWait = New-TimeSpan -Minutes 8
          $timeout = Get-Date;
          $timeout = $timeout.Add($maxWait);
          $currTime = Get-Date;
          $successfullySetConfigDC = $false;

          while($currTime -le $timeout)
          {
            $setSharedCDCErrors = @();

I suspect there's a problem with the Site Default-First-Site-Name part - I did specify a new Exchange Organization name during the first part of setup.

One other detail - this is a 2008 R2 domain, and the nearest DC had a problem with the Network Location - it thought the adapter was in the Public zone. I thought this might be the problem and fixed that by disabling/re-enabling the adapter, but that didn't help the Exchange install.  The second DC was probably registering the Exchange information.

Two questions, then: first, can I rescue this installation, or would I be faster or better off killing this server and spinning up a new one (this is on VMware 5.5)?  I would much rather fix this one than start again.  And second, what issues might I encounter as a result of this failed installation?  Will the install wizard pick up the changes to the AD schema?  I'm pretty sure that won't be a problem, but I don't know for certain.

Thanks to all for looking!

Error upgrading Exchange 2010 to service Pack 3

Hi,

Recently I was tasked with upgrading our existing production environment(Running Exch-2010- Version: 14.02.0247.005) to Exchange 2013 SP1. We only have 2 servers. The first running Client Access, Hub-Transport & Mailbox role and the second running just the Mailbox role. After some research, I was trying to upgrade Ex 2010 to SP3 before running Ex 2013 but unfortunately got stuck with an error that doesn't allow  upgrade of Ex 2010 to SP3.  Tried searching for similar errors over the net but couldn't find anything solid so im here desperately needing assistance from you. Error msg attached below;

Thanks in Advance!

Exchange 2010 not receiving external email after migration from 2007.

 I can OWA into any account just fine from remote locations.  I have recreated send and receive connectors a couple different times.  I can telnet into the server while offsite using the FQDN and port 25.  When on the Exchange server itself I cannot telnet to it, though I'm not sure if that is normal or not.  The old server is still up and running and was sending and receiving email just fun until I changed my port forward in my router to point to the new server to test mail flow.  All but one of the email accounts are still on the old server but I did move one account to the new server for testing.  I can OWA into that account without issue.  If i go into my queue on the server i have approximately 30 email in there and and error message.  451 4.4.0 Primary target IP address responded with: "421 4.2.1 Unable to connect." The mailflow troublshooter comes back with "5.3.3 unrecognized command" which from research I see can be due to lack of space on the hard drive, that is not the case on this server.

Aside from that I have tried too much to list.  Suggestions would be appreciated.

*Old server is Server 2008 SBS
*New Server is Server 2012 with Exchange 2010 SP2

How to setup admins for seperate OU's in Exchange 2013, so that each OU's admin can only see the recipient's and groups for their particular OU?

Good evening,

Let me first say that I have some experience with Exchange 2013, but I am by far no expert. I have setup Exchange 2013 as a multi-tenancy mail server. Currently we are hosting email for 4 separate companies on a single server. Everything is setup and working great, however we recently found an issue that I am trying to resolve.

We would like to setup one or more users from each OU to serve as admins for their particular OU. Their purpose would be to create/modify recipient mailboxes and distributions groups. The purpose for this is so that someone from each company can login to the ECP and manage ONLY the recipients and groups for their particular OU, while the other OU's recipients and groups are not visible to them. We want these admin users to be able to manage recipients within their OU ONLY, without any knowledge of the other OUs.

The problem is when we setup a user as an admin and grand them permissions under the admin role policies, each admin can see ALL of the OUs, ALL of the recipients on the server, and ALL of the distribution groups. Of course, that allows any admin, regardless of which company they are with to view ALL recipient email addresses, etc. and that is what we are trying to change.

At this point, I don't know how to proceed. I read a similar post in these forums where the only response was to use a third party application to accomplish this, but if that is truly the only solution, which third party app COULD accomplish this?
