New Exchange 2013 Install with OST files

$

Hello everyone and thanks for your help in advance.  I am upgrading from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2013 and need to transfer approximately 40 mailboxes.  Each user has local OST files on their client machines.  I know there is no direct upgrade from 2003 to 2013 and would prefer to do a new install rather than upgrading to 2010 then to 2013.  I know I can use a third party converter to convert the OST to PST, then import them to Exchange.  But I was wondering what would happen if I performed the new install, then set up the new mailboxes for each user on the new Exchange box, then connect the users.  Will the local OST files populate the Exchange mailboxes?  Or will Exchange overwrite the local OST files with blank data?  Or will nothing happen.  Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Errors installing -- Schema Admin, Containers

I downloaded Exchange 2013 Eval from technet but it failed trying to setup Mailbox role, I checked the version and it was RTM so I downloaded CU 9, after uninstalling and trying to install CU 9 I get errors at the prerequisite check and while trying to perform /preparead or /prepareschema:

the AD schema isn't up-to-date and this user account isnt a member of the "Schema Admins" and/or "Enterprise Admins"

Setup encountered a problem while validating the state of AD:  Couldnt find the Enterprise Organization container.

I am logged in as domain/administrator and that account IS both a schema and enterprise admin.  It seems to happen when you uninstall and resinstall after a failed installation as I was able to get further when installing for the first time...previously on the RTM release I had the same issue and wound up reinstalling exchange (new server) but got the Mailbox installation failure so I downloaded CU9 -- Exchange is on the same server as I've been asked to make it that way since they are only 10 users and have been using Exchange 2003 for years with AD on the same old server (they don't use AD though just WORKGROUP).

Hybrid Deployment Questions

Hi

Just a question one of our customers have currently 1 x cas and 2x mbx servers with a kemp loadbalancer. We are planning a hybrid exchange. I was going to install a new server cas+mbx to use has a regular cas server for HA and for hybrid deployment. My understanding is that i only need to add a new url for ex : hybrid.mydomain.com. Is this correct? By doing this it will still act as a cas and hybrid server correct?

Thanks in advance

Exchange 2013 Migration, possibility to proceed with "NTLM" authentication in Outlook Anywhere

I m in the migration process of exchange 2010 (SP3 RU5) to exchange 2013 (sp1).

Following "Exchange Server Deployment Assistant" of technet.

Just completed installation of MBX2013 and CAS2013 servers on same subnet and configured virtual directories and installed certificates.

Not yet moved the arbitration mailbox.

Outlook anywhere has already enabled with "NTLM" authentication for all Outlook users .

Deployment Assistance advised to run bellow command in step of "Enable and Configure Outlook anywhere".

Enable-OutlookAnywhere -ClientAuthenticationMethod Basic -IISAuthenticationMethods NTLM, Basic.

This will impact to experience of all  outlook users, which they will prompt password when open outlook. And cannot accepted by our environment.

I need to get your advice on,

1. Can i proceed migration with NTLM authentication?

2. What sort of Issue can be expected and solutions?

SSL Certificate for internal OWA and Outlook w/ CNAME

Our users access OWA using a cname record webmail.domain.local Our Outlook use the actual server name servername.domain.local I'm a little confused when it comes to creating the SSL certificate using our existing internal certificate server. When I run through the wizard to generate a certificate request on exchange should I put the actual server name in the OWA URL or the CNAME or since I have a CNAME record do I need both on the certificate and have to generate it some other way? Thank you for any ideas.

What URL should be used for Outlook Anywhere when enabled on a Public Folder (legacy), from 2013?

After several calls with Microsoft, a ROSS, and several other engagements, we have the following configuration below.

Goal

Each DAG (Exchange 2013, and 2010) has 4 members, two in each site.  Assume that the cluster resource is in the respective "active sites".  Public folders are on Exchange 2010/Legacy

Clients

Outlook 2007, cached and non cached mode and newer.  Some are on-network, some are off network

New York Subnet: 10.10.15.x

  Autodiscover: autodiscover.contoso.com
DAG Name: NYCDAG , No Cluster Administrative point

RPC setting on all Exchange 2013 databases: NameOfA2013Server.contoso.com
RPC setting on all Exchange 2010 databases: old2010RPC.contoso.com

  ClientAccessArray: old2010RPC.contoso.com

Internal URLs and External URLs for all Virtual Directories (2013 servers)
https://NYCCAS.contoso.com/x  (x is OAB, EWS, OWA,

Note- we did have an ambiguous namespace where Autodiscover URL, and the RPC name were the same.  This has been corrected.

Public Folder server PF01:  OutlookAnywhere is enabled, and has a name of PublicFoldersNYC.contoso.com.  1:1 NAT available to outside

Exchange 2010 CAS Array: OutlookAnywhere is enabled and has a name of Legacy2010.contoso.com.  1:1 NAT available to outside.

San Francisco: 10.5.5.X

  Autodiscover: autodiscover.contoso.com
DAG Name: SFDAG  (stretched DAG with NYC).  No Cluster Administrative point

Internal URLs and External URLs for all Virtual Directories
  https://SFCAS.contoso.com/xxx

2010 Public folders, CAS not yet configured.

Is it strange that we have 3 OutlookAnywhere endpoints in the NYC site? What is the preferred configuration?

Hi,

I have been looking of a solution of this problem, that started from a new installation of Exchange 2013 (CU8 installed).

I get this errors after 30 seconds in (run as admin) management shell.

Starting a command on the remote server failed with the following error message :

no longer exists on the server. Provide the correct ShellId or create a new shell and retry the operation. For more information, see the about_Remote_Troubleshooting Help topic.

Sofar I found this problem listed in an MS article about language cookies, solved with CU3.

Exchange 2013 Readiness Check Error

$

I have been trying to install Exchange 2013 for a while now and have continued to run into the same error during the readiness check.  The readiness check stalls at 40% completed and I receive the following error:

Error:

The following error was generated when "$error.Clear();

if (Get-Service MSDTC*|?{$_.Name -eq 'MSDTC'})

{

Set-Service MSDTC -StartupType Automatic

Start-SetupService -ServiceName MSDTC

}

"was run:"The task failed because a Win32 error occurred: "Access is denied". Could not open the service "MSDTC".".

I have tried to install this both onto Windows Server 2008 R2 as well as Windows Server 2012.  I have installed all of the prerequisites as noted in the Microsoft documentation.  I have tried to install this as the first Exchange server in a brand new AD environment as well as trying to install it into an AD environment where I had already installed Exchange Server 2010 with SP3.  I always receive the same error message during the readiness check when it stalls at 40%.

Any help here would be very much appreciated.

Thank you.

Cross Forest Free / Busy Ex2010 > Ex2013 only working one way

Hi,

I hope someone will have seen this before as it is driving me mad, just setting up cross forest free / busy between Exchange 2010 and 2013, lookups work 2013 to 2010 but not 2010 to 2013.

I have double triple checked everything, DNS, Certs, Autodiscover, access to EWS etc and it all looks good but it still doesn't work.  This is the first time I've tried this to Exchange 2013 so I may be missing something but I can't see what..

I found this but is has not helped either! https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3010570 as I am using DNS and not SCP.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Exchange 2007 decom after Exchange 2013 installation

Afternoon,

We have installed exchange 2013 and it has been running successfully for a while. We are at the point where we would like to decommission the exchange 2007 environment, but I am having issues.

When I run the setup.com /mode:uninstall /removecms /cmsname:xxxx i get an error about the public folder replicas.

When I try to run the moveallreplicas.ps1 i get another message

'There is no existing

Publicfolder that matches the following: '\'

It seems that this is a product of being having both 2007 and 2013 in the environment. The organisation has not used public folders for years so getting rid of them is not a problem.

What is the best way forward as I need to decommission the old Environment ASAP!

Thanks for any assistance!!

Hello,

i'm kind of stuck after migrate all of my mailboxes to office 365 about what to do with my on premise Exchange 2013.

now i have the following situation :

All my mailbox have been migrated from Exchange 2013 to exchange online, my AD is Dyrsinced and all flows are going through office365.

My on premise server is turned off since about a month and everything is going well.

i don't want to keep my on premise Exchange Server like is recommended by microsoft since i can manage what i want with AD Attributes and Powershell.

so can i uninstall the on-prem exch without worries ? since this will delete some exchange attributes on my users, how my office365 mailboxes will react? what is the best thing to do?

thanks by advance for your help !

Autodiscover setup for Internal and External Domains

I have an Exchange installation that is giving me issues. The server was migrated from an old SBS system into a standalone exchange server. All exchange services are supported by a single server.

The issue is that when an internal client connects to the server a SSL error occurs, every time. (See Below)

Any input is appreciated.

Some other points:

  • The Active Directory is a .local domain while the Email Addresses are .com
  • A certificate was purchased for the .com domain (OWA Access)
  • The Server is a member of the domain
