Exchange 2010 to 2013 migration: Mailbox move requests are journaled.

$

Hello,

I've installed Exchange 2013 into Exchange 2010 infrastructure
[ single Exchange 2010 server; single AD site; AD = 2003 ],

Exchange 2010 has 2 databases:
1. Database with users mailboxes;    Journaling YES: Journal account.
2. Database with 1 mailbox for Journal user mentioned above:     Journaling NO.

Exchange 2013 has 1 database:
1. Database with moved users mailboxes;    Journaling YES: Journal account.

I saw that when I move mailbox from 2010 to 2013 then Journal Database INCREASES about size of MOVED MAILBOX !
I logged into Journal mailbox by OWA and didn't see any duplicate messages concerned with this mailbox user...

I'd like:
* to understand technically what happened,
* to avoid unnecessary growth of Journal Database.

I'd like not to switch off journaling for all users during mailbox move.

best regards Janusz Such

my company has exchange 2007 hub and edge and exchange 2010. I'm planning to retire all exchange 2007 first follow migrate to exchange 2013. so I have few questions as below ?

1. Do I need to unsubscribe hub 2007 from edge first before uninstall ? Currently we have 2 hubs (2007 and 2010). How can I remove hub 2007 from exchange edge server 2007 ?

2. let say once my landscape just have exchange 2010, is it installing our first exchange 2013 will impact our mail flow ? my understand there is NO impact until we switch over 'mail IP' to CAS 2013. am I correct ?

3. what is minimum requirement for co-exist with exchange 2013 for exchange 2010 ? is it enough with SP3 or I need to apply SP3 RU5 ? in deployment assistant, the requirement is SP3 RU5 but most article i read just mention SP3.

thx.

Hello Guys,

I cannot download the Exchange 2013 or Exch 2013 SP1 ISO file from the Microsoft Website.

Before downloading i have register on the Site.

Purpose of downloading the ISO is to upgrade the Active Directory Schema before installing exch server.

We get .exe file instead of ISO.

I am searching it for 2 days now no help.

Suggestion and recommendations highly appreciated.

Migration from 2007-2013 - Installation of 2010 server?

$

We have Exchange 2007 installed currently (SP3, latest UR). I installed Exchange 2013 in preparation for migration, started working on configuration. After doing some digging, we realized we don't have any licensing for 2013 (miscommunication). The obvious solution is to purchase licensing for 2013, but the cost is an issue.

First questions: we do have licensing for 2010. Is there any way we can install Exchange 2010? Everything I'm reading says no, but would like confirmation. 2010 was never installed in the environment.

Second question: If I cannot install 2010, can I install a second 2007 server after 2013 has been installed (newer OS)? Safely uninstall 2013?

Thanks!

Mailbox cross forest request is not finalizing older mailboxes correctly

Hi all,

I am in the testing stages of a cross-forest mail migration (2008 SP2 forest with exchange 2010 SP3 to 2012R2 with 2013 Sp1)

The account is prepared with the Prepare-MoveRequest.ps1, mailbox is moved (either with new-moverequest or new-migrationbatch OR from the ECP portal) user account moves without issue, no failed items. user is prompted to restart outlook, the expectation is that when the user re-opens outlook it should be pointing to their new moved mailbox. for older mailboxes this does not work. I have to go in and manually create a new profile and search for their account.

Now the interesting part. I create a new user in the new forest, user our create user script (from the mailbox forest it finds the user, creates the local user then adds mailbox and links to the user account in the new forest) once this is done,  I can wait for replication then prepare the new forest account to migration (mail enable and run Prepare-Moverquest) once I move the mailbox and reclogged in, the mailbox was pointing properly to the new exchange environment!

Any thoughts on why any older (longer then a couple days) would fail out?

any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated!

Exchange 2013 Migration issues

Environment:
Mixed 2007 SP3 R12 and 2013 CU3. 2007 Environment was webmail.domain.com. I installed new Exchange 2013 (1 CAS, 1 Mailbox) according to:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff805032(v=exchg.150).aspx. Exchange 2007 is now legacy.domain.com and Exchange 2013 CAS is webmail.domain.com.
Machine 1: Windows 8.1, not domain joined, using Outlook Anywhere external. Outlook 2013
Machine 2: Windows 7, domain joined, using Outlook Anywhere internal. Outlook 2010 SP2

I have migrated 1 user so far to Exchange 2013.

ISSUE

Apps. Installed by default are 4 apps (Bing Maps, Suggested Meetings, Unsubscribe, Action Items). I have made sure the apps are enabled in OWA and they show up in mail items on both Machine 1 (Outlook 2013) and OWA. They do not show up in Machine 2 (Outlook 2010). I'm assuming that isn't supported.
In OWA, when I go to the installed apps listing it shows all of the apps but has a broken link on the image describing the app.
When I click the app in either Outlook 2013 or in OWA, I get "APP ERROR, Sorry we can't load the app. Please make sure you have network and/or internet connectivity. Click "Retry" once you're back online.
Current workaround is just disabling them through OWA.

Migrating Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013

Hello I have an Exchange 2007 server (CAS (HUB (MBX) on Windows 2008 with this infrastructure:

Site A
--------
- Exchange Server 2007
- Email Users

Site B
--------
- Exchange Server 2013 Backend and Frontend

Other Sites
-------------
- Email Users

Users now have access to sitema current email (Exchange 2007) by mail.contoso.com.

My idea is to add a name to the certificate and more users access the system will migrate Exchange 2013 email online (OWA, Outlook Anywhere, AS ...) by mail2.contoso.com.

Does this method is correct? something that has to be considered?

Multiple Domains and SSL Certificates

Hi Guys

I have two domains

example.com.au

example-it.com.au

and two wild card certificates

*.example.com.au

*.example-it.com.au

I've used import-certificate to import both of these onto a brand new exchange server 2013 and then changed my host file to point the FQDN at this server.

However, of the two domains only 1 seems to have a valid certificate..

How can I make sure both of them work?

2010 to 2013 migration - host name and cert issues

$

I'm in the process of migrating our 2010 (mail.domain.com) server to 2013 (mail1.domain.com). Domain name is not changing. My issue is the 2010 server has a host name that is the same as the HOST, MX and SAN cert (both internal and external: mail.domain.com, autodiscover.domain.com, etc). I need these servers to co-exist for a few weeks while I migrate mailboxes. I wanted to create a new mail server host name/alias for the entire org that can be pointed to both servers (email.domain.com). What's the best route to do this with the least amount of impact on clients? I have the new server setup and both servers are communicating with no issues (it's installed, that's about it, I can manage everything from the 2013 server), but the new 2013 server is still running on a self-signed cert. I need to get the 2013 server transitioned over to being the head-end but can't do that until I have a new SAN cert in place. I've read all the articles on how to manage the migration, but all the those scenarios are going with the assumption that the MX/HOST records and certs don't match the actual host name of the existing servers when they start talking about making sure the virtual directories are all the same on both servers. Also, by creating a new SAN cert (for email.domain.com) with all the needed names, will that invalidate my existing SAN cert that still contains the current namespace (autodiscover.domain.com, legacy.domain.com, etc)?

Mailbox Migration from exchange 2010 to 2013 won't sync, pretends that its completed successfully.

Hello,

We've recently set up Exchange 2013 and we've successfully migrated our users mailbox from 2010 to a database in 2013. There were two users that failed to migrate. Ever since then, every time I try to individually migrate them, it says:

Migration batch user migration 13 has completed successfully.
________________________________________
Synced: None  <--- Says it worked but as you can see there were no mailboxes synced
Total mailboxes: None  <--- 0 Mailboxes completed

When I try it again and refresh the Mailbox status under the batch name, it never shows the Mailbox syncing, the field just stays blank until it says that once again its completed successfully.

Things I've Tried:

  • Migrating it using powershell instead (didn't work). Tried with verbose too and nothing shows up as it fails
  • Migration limit is set to unlimited and set the error count to 1000.
  • Tried Restarting the MS Exchange Mailbox Migration Service (didn't work)
  • Tried migrating users to a different database on the new server (didn't work)
  • Tried migrating users to a different database on the same server (didn't work)
  • Tried creating a new user with a new mailbox on exchange 2010 and then migrating it to a 2013 database (worked)
  • Checked event viewer, and logs on the exchange server, there wasn't anything revealing
  • Tried clearing the ADSI attributes associated to moving mailboxes for the users.(didn't work)
  • Tried a couple of other things not worth mentioning.

This isn't a remote migration, its on the same domain, but from one server's database to a new server's database

Any help would be much appreciated, I'm not quite sure what else to try.

Regards,

Bojan

2013 Batch Migration does not set AllowLargeItems Flag

$

So I am preparing to do a cross forest exchange move, Exchange 2010 in a 2008 Forest to Exchange 2013 in a 2012 forest. normal move requests work without issue. When attempting to do a new-MigrationBatch command though, the cmdlet completes successfully but when you check the move request the AllowLargeItems is set to false.

I have set the LargeItemLimit in both the batch CSV and from the Cmdlet itself, this works (the large item count is set right) but the Allow is not changed to true, so all move requests in that batch skip large items. Has anyone else experience this or can they confirm this happens to them when using a migration batch (not sure if the cross forest piece has any play in it or not)

Thanks in advance!

Powershell that is being used to star  the batch

New-MigrationBatch -Name BatchName -SourceEndpoint <EndPoint> -TargetDeliveryDomain <SMTP-Domain> -CSVData ([System.IO.File]::ReadAllBytes("BATCH.csv")) -AutoStart -NotificationEmails "Email.address" -DomainController <DC> -AllowIncrementalSyncs $true -BadItemLimit 50 -LargeItemLimit 200

Setting the LargeItem limit to Unlimited also does not help, was hoping but it didn't make a difference.

Office 365/Exchange PST Capture Tool not finding mailboxes

$

I am trying to use this utility to move the emails/contacts/etc. in some of my local PST files into an email account on Exchange Online (the cloud) through Office 365.

I have set up the "Online Connection Settings" and have connected successfully using the "check" button to my Office 365 global administrative account.

Next I added my PST file using the  "Add from Folder..." button.

The problem is that when I click on "Set mailbox..."( to direct the emails/contacts/etc. to be added to the correct email address in my company) the list never loads, it simply says "The Central Service is retrieving the mailbox data, try again in a moment".

It has been like this for several hours and shows no signs of change.

I need to be able to load .pst files from my old domain into the exchange cloud and NEVER USE THEM AGAIN. This means actually importing the emails, not just adding the .pst file to Outlook.

Please advise why the tool cannot find my company's email addresses and how to fix.

-Joe

P.S: I have already posted this in the Office 365 forums, they gave me the "not officially supported" nonsense and sent me here.

Successful install of Exchange 2013 SP1 turns into nightmare after upgrade to CU7

$

I have a new Exchange 2013 server with plans to migrate from my current Exchange 2007 Server. I installed Exchange 2013 SP1 and the only errors I saw in the event log seemed to be long standing known issues that did not indicate an actual problem (based on what I read online). I updated to CU7 and now lots of errors have appeared (although the old ones seem to have been fixed so I have that going for me). Currently the Exchange 2013 server is not in use and clients are still hitting the 2007 server.

Issue 1)

After each reboot I get a Kernel-EventTracing 2 error.  I cannot find anything on this on the internet so I have no idea what it is.

Session "FastDocTracingSession" failed to start with the following error: 0xC0000035

I did read other accounts of this error with a different name in the quotes but still can’t tell what this is or where it is coming from.

Issue 2)

I am still getting 3 MSExchange Common 106 errors even after reregistering all of the perf counters per this page:

https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2870416?wa=wsignin1.0

One of the perf counters fails to register using the script from the link above.

But that one seems unrelated to the ones that still throw errors.  The three remaining errors are (the forum is removing my spacing between the error text so it looks like a wall of text - sorry):

Issue 3)

I appear to have some issues related to the healthmailboxes.  I get MSExchangeTransport 1025 errors for multiple healthmailboxes.

SMTP rejected a (P1) mail from 'HealthMailbox23b10b91745648819139ee691dc97eb6@PBJFS.local' with 'Client Proxy <my server>' connector and the user authenticated as 'HealthMailbox23b10b91745648819139ee691dc97eb6'. The Active Directory lookup for the sender address returned validation errors. Microsoft.Exchange.Data.ProviderError

I reran setup /prepareAD to try and remedy this but I am still getting some.

Issue 4)

I am getting an MSExchange RBAC 74 error.  Trying to chase it down with get-serverhealth I find that a monitor called RpsDeepTestPSProxyMonitor is unhealthy. I attempted:

Invoke-MonitoringProbe RPS\RpsDeepTestPSProxyMonitor -Server valis | Format-List

Which resulted in:

WARNING: Could not find assembly or object type associated with monitor identity 'RPS\RpsDeepTestPSProxyMonitor'. Please ensure that the given monitor identity exists on the server.

There are other items listed as unhealthy as well.

Issue 5)

I am getting MSExchange Assistants 9042 warnings on both databases.

Service MSExchangeMailboxAssistants. Probe Time Based Assistant for database Database02 (c83dbd91-7cc4-4412-912e-1b87ca6eb0ab) is exiting a work cycle. No mailboxes were successfully processed. 2 mailboxes were skipped due to errors. 0 mailboxes were skipped due to failure to open a store session. 0 mailboxes were retried. There are 0 mailboxes in this database remaining to be processed.

Some research suggested this may be related to deleted mailboxes however I have never had any actual user mailboxes on this server. If they are healthmailboxes or arbitration mailboxes that might make sense but I am unsure of what to do on this.

Issue 6)

I am getting an MSExchange CmdletLogs error 8.

(PID 3120, Thread 14) Task Get-HealthReport throwing unhandled exception: System.ArgumentException: sessionState

   at Microsoft.Exchange.Configuration.Tasks.ExchangePropertyContainer.GetProvisioningBroker(ISessionState sessionState)

   at Microsoft.Exchange.Configuration.Tasks.Task.<BeginProcessing>b__4()

   at Microsoft.Exchange.Configuration.Tasks.Task.InvokeNonRetryableFunc(Action func, Boolean terminatePipelineIfFailed).

This is probably related to the healthmailboxes issue number 3 above.

Any help would be appreciated.

Issue 7)

At boot I am getting an MSExchange ActiveSync warning 1033

The setting SupportedIPMTypes in the Web.Config file was missing. Using default value of System.Collections.Generic.List`1[System.String].

I don't know why but this forum is removing some of my spacing that would make parts of this easier to read.

hi

in the above scenario, when you perform a remote mailbox move, on the 2010sp3 hybrid box - does it move the users mailbox (albeit proxying the request) directly into the cloud, or do you have to "stage" the mailbox on the hybrid (2010) server first

Exchange 2013 CU7 will not install

Has anyone tried to install CU7 on a server running CU6? I just keep getting an error. The install process seems to disable the Exchange services and then errors out because it cannot start the MS Exchange Service Host service. I'm running Exchange 2013 CU6 on Windows Server 2012 R2 in a two-node DAG.

I was able to force the installation to work by running...

Get-Service | where-object {$_.DisplayName -like "Microsoft Exchange*"} | Set-Service -StartupType Manual

each time the setup changed to a different step.

The install seem to work fine on my second DAG node.

Cutover migration skipped mailbox because of duplicate username

$

I am performing a cutover migration of 23 users from on-premises Exchange 2003 to Office 365 Business Essentials. All but my mailbox were copied successfully. When I created the Office 365 account, I created the first user with my existing company username, and the migration balked at creating a duplicate. I have renamed that initial account, which I will delete later. How do I retry syncing my mailbox? Do I stop and restart the existing batch, which is still running? Do I create a second batch? Something else? Any help would be appreciated. Sorry if I have chosen the wrong forum.
