Pitfalls upgrading Exchange 2010 all roles to Server 2012 R2?

Question 1: I have an Windows Server 2012 that is running Exchange 2010 that I would like to upgrade to Server 2012 R2. Is there any potential issues with this going forward?

Question 2: Upgrading my domain controllers from Server 2012 to Server 2012 R2, will this cause any potential problems?

TooManyMissingItemsPermanentException

I am importing PSTs that I got out of Exchange 2003 server in to Exchange 2013 SP1

Some of the import jobs are failing with the following error

FailureCode   : -2146233088
FailureType   : TooManyMissingItemsPermanentException
Message       : Error: This mailbox exceeded the maximum number of corrupt or missing items that were specified for this request.

How can I increase the limit for corrupt or missing items ?

Hopping I would be able to restart the request with

Resume-MailboxImportRequest -Identity XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

and provide the user with a list of not imported items from the report below

Get-MailboxImportRequest | Get-MailboxImportRequestStatistics -IncludeReport | fl > x:\Report.txt

MsExchangeMailboxReplication.exe.config has ContentVerificationMissingItemThreshold = 0, 0, MaxInt

Multiple Resource Forests

Hi!

Our organization is in the process of planning/designing our on-premise Exchange 2013 infrastructure. Currently we have an existing Exchange 2010/2007 coexist environment deployed as a resource forest. My question is it possible to deploy the new Exchange 2013 environment in another resource forest? So we would sort of have the following layout:

The reason why we want to create a greenfield environment for the 2013 is because we still need to keep the 2010/2007 environment for restores and litigation reasons. We also just want to start off with a fresh install so we do not break any legacy applications still relaying or utilizing the 2010/2007 forest.

Another question - if the model above is possible. How would GAL sync work? Would we need to do federated trust between the two Exchange organization?

Cheers!

Problem migrating Public folders from 2007 to 2013

Hi.

We are migrating from Exchange 2007 to 2013.

I am currently trying to migrate our public folders to the new server, but it is going very slowly, and it fails after working for some time.

In my report for the migration I keep getting these errors:

1/17/2014 9:42:27 AM [WINSRV01] Transient error ResourceUnhealthyException has occurred. The system will retry (14/60).

1/17/2014 9:42:35 AM [WINSRV01] The move is currently stalled due to 'Remote Resource' lagging behind on resource 'Resource 'CiRetryQueueSize(New Mailbox Database)' is unhealthy and shouldn't be accessed.'.

My contentindexretryqueuesize is currently about 7000.

What is causing this, and how do I fix it :)

Multi-tenant - Address Book Policy Routing Agent

Have setup a test multi-tenant environment and implemented the ABP Routing Agent as per the Microsoft guidelines in order that contact details of other tenants cannot be resolved when sending between tenants. The Address Book Policies themselves are working correctly and tenants only see their own GAL etc, however when sending to another tenant, instead of their details appearing as an external address, they are being 'resolved' and all contact information visible in Sent Items for instance. I was under the impression that the ABP Routing Agent should get around this issue? Thanks.

Unable to complete UCC cert request

I'm having an issue getting EX2013 to complete a cert request. I generated the request via ECP. I hit complete request and specify the location to the publicly trusted cert (godaddy). The cert status does not change from "Pending Request" However if i connect to the cert store on the box (server 2012) I see that the cert was imported into the certificate store.

Thoughts?

Trouble Migrating

Hello,

I have recently tried to migrate a user to another database and I am having some issues. I originally was trying to migrate the user to another database but I stopped it midway and tried to create another migration batch to move the users mailbox. Now I am getting an error saying that MigrationPermanentException: Mailbox 'X' is already being moved to "Y"

Mailbox"X" is already being moved to "Y"

I have since deleted the old Migration Batch and have not been able to figure out how to fix this problem. Any help would be appreciated I am running a VM with Server 2012 and Exchange 2013

thanks in advance

Autodiscover SCP multiple CAS servers

$

I have a 2007 server and a 2010 exchange server,

I recently started to decomission 2007 and moved all mailboxes to 2010,

recently the 2007 server went offline,

autodiscover failed as the autodiscoverserviceinternaluri SCP was set to point to the 2007 server

on the 2010 server the SCP was pointing to the 2010 server correctly...

I am wondering how with multiple SCP's / autodiscover URI's a client finds and connects to the correct one, or incorrect one in my case...

Update Exch '13 from CU3 to SP1 taking many hours - Set-LocalPermission cmdlet at fault

I started an the upgrade on our Exchange 2013 Standard server last night.  It was previously on CU3 and I'm updating it to SP1.

It's been 13 hours and it's still only on step 14 of 18.

Our server meets the minimum hardware requirements for Exchange 2013, although we are on the very low end for RAM (8 GB).

Do others have similar experiences?  How long did it take you to install SP1?

Besides having a test environment or running high availability does anybody have tips for how to speed up this process?

EDIT:  After reviewing the logs (see my first response below) I see that the Set-LocalPermissions cmdlet is taking over an hour to run each time it's called.  Any idea why that would be?

We will be replacing an SBS 2003 server that runs Exchange 2003 withnew hardware. There only 12 mailboxes but some are over 2GB. We will have a new server that has Exchange 2013 installed and will also be a DC and it will have a different name and FQDN from the SBS. We will be manually creating the AD with same user names that are on the SBS.

How can we get the mail from 2003 to 2013?

I've run Setup /PrepareSchema and Setup /PrepareAD on the DC in the site Exchange specified.

I have installed all of the Prereqs

Here's an example of my set up

There's Two sites

Atlanta-HeadQuarters

Exchange Machine is in Atlanta-DataCenter Site and attached to DataCenter domain.

Exchange requested the /PrepareAD and /PrepareSchema be run on a Domain Controller in the root domain that is in site Atlanta-HeadQuarters.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Hi ,

I am currently testing a cross forest migration from exchange 2007 to exchange 2013. i do not have trust between my forest but i did set up conditional forwarding in both the source and target environment.

The Mailbox replication service does not behave as expected when i submit a new move request.

the move request : New-MoveRequest -Identity "f2867850-5e88-4f97-9efb-0b867a1fdb4b" -BadItemLimit "10" -TargetDeliveryDomain "TargetDomain" -TargetDatabase "{cbc90e5e-6124-458c-8105-464bc27d26c1}" -RemoteCredential (Get-Credential "sourcecredential") -RemoteGlobalCatalog "FQDN of source GC" -RemoteLegacy:$true

the error : "The call to 'net.tcp://SERVERNAME/Microsoft.Exchange.MailboxReplicationService SERVERNAME (15.0.775.35 caps:3F)' timed out. Error details: This request operation sent to net.tcp://SERVERNAME/Microsoft.Exchange.MailboxReplicationService did not receive a reply within the configured timeout (00:01:00). The time allotted to this operation may have been a portion of a longer timeout. This may be because the service is still processing the operation or because the service was unable to send a reply message. Please consider increasing the operation timeout (by casting the channel/proxy to IContextChannel and setting the OperationTimeout property) and ensure that the service is able to connect to the client."

I can ping both global catalog in the source environment and in the target from both side. nslookup and autodiscover is working as well.

MRS Proxy is enable on the exchange 2013 side and i have enable remote Powershell on both side.

i do not have any load balancer configure.

If anyone can point me in the right direction where to look it would be greatly appreciated.

thanks you

Exchange 2013 autodiscover returned Namespace for OAB is not what I expected

$

Hello,

I've installed Exchange 2013 in an Exchange 2007 environment.  I have Exchange 2013 servers (CU5) in 2 AD sites (US and UK) and I'm connecting with Outlook 2013 internally via Outlook Anywhere.  Our main site is in the US and secondary site is in the UK.  I've created two namespaces - mail.domain.com for the US and mailUK.domain.com for for the UK.  I've set up the OWA, ECP, OAB, Outlook Anywhere and AutodiscoverInternalUri to use these.  The names point to a E2013 server and not E2007.  I also have a second OAB generated in the UK site.  When I'm on a UK workstation, in the UK AD site and on a domain joined machine (SCP lookup), I start outlook and run the test email autoconfig, it returns the correct namespaces for EWS, OOF and UM but the OAB is pointing to the US namespace.  For example:

Availability Server: https://mailuk.domain.com/ews.Exchange.asmx

OOF URL: https://mailuk.domain.com/ews/Exchange.asmx

OAB URL: https://mail.domain.com/oab/OabGuid

UM URL: https://mailluk.domain.com/ews/UM2007Legacy.asmx

The GUID for the OAB is correct (UK OAB) but it's connecting to the US server and coming back to the UK server for the OAB.  The US databases are configured with a different OAB than the UK databases.  It looks like autodiscover is returning an internal OAB URL from one of the US servers.

Doesn't autodiscover return the OAB URL based on the location of the mailbox (UK) and the OAB GUID?  Can anyone see something that I'm missing?

Thanks

Exchange 2010 remove hybrid configuration and remove on premise exchange servers

$

I have used a hybrid configuration for a while but have recently finished moving all mailboxes to 365 and I have also removed the Dir Sync so the authority point is 365, all DNS records point to 365 and mail flow is all directly to 365.

I have 2 on premise exchange servers that are doing nothing,

What are the steps to remove the hybrid configuration and remove these exchange servers from the domain?

Thanks

When I try to re-run the setup, it fails at the same spot. I can't use the ECP nor the Shell to remove the Receive Connector (it is just a receive connector for the MFP).

Is there any way to remove this receive connector with Powershell not working?

(It looks like this is the problem: http://exchangemaster.wordpress.com/2014/01/24/incorrectly-adding-new-receive-connector-breaks-exchange-2013-transport/ but since I can't get a shell to run in this failed upgrade state I can't take the recommended fix nor just remove the connector.)

ok  so I have a fresh build of Exchange 2013 on a new AD domain, there is no old remnants of a previous version.

I have a  send connector created:

  • Specify how to send mail with this connector.
  • MX record associated with recipient domain is checked

After Public Folder Migration 2010 to 2013

$

Last week I used technet page to migrate our exchange 2010 public folders over to exchange 2013. I'm still new to exchange management so I'm trying to understand what to do next.

The migration move showed 100% complete and successful and now show up as a mailbox in the 2013 admin center. I thought to myself Great! I did it. So I attempted to decommission my 2010 exchange server.

I attempted to remove my public folder database in the 2010 EMC and it tells me the database still contains folder replicas.

I found a couple options as possible fixes, either to remove it in ADSI edit or delete the files in the folder. I just want to make sure doing so won't effect the 2013 public folders.

Or should I do this a different way? Thanks in advance.
