Exchange 2010, configuring HA (disaster recovery) in another Site

$

Hi, I was planning my Exchange 2010 (sp1) HA architecture, but I stumble in something unexpected (due to my ignorance) and I'm looking for advice.

Here is the situation now:

I have a virtual exchange server with HUB and CAS roles and another phisical exchange server with mailbox role installed. They are both in my primary site.

Now we have a remote site and a remote vmware hosts to use for HA and disaster recovery purposes. The internal network of the DR site is different from mine and it's natted too. More precisely my primary network is 192.168.100.0/24 and the DR network is 192.168.60.0/24 natted with 192.168.113.0/24.

The DR domain controller and the DR AD site are already in place.

My idea was:

- to use veeam replication to create a replica of the first exchange server, the virtual one of course, with CAS and HUB roles. I thought to use the veeam network remapping tool to change che server IP address in case of failover.

- to install a new exchange server in the DR site with mailbox role only and configure a DAG

I thought it was brilliant.

It was not..

Since i cannot create the veeam replica right now (long story) I tried to install the DAG and here we are with my problems.

Error:

Setup encountered a problem while validating the state of Active Directory. Could not find Active Directory site to which this server belongs.

This is weird, because I have no problems with site replications etc.

Warning:

Setup did not detect an existing Huh Transport Server role installed in Active Directory site 'DR'...
Setup did not detect an existing Client Access Server role installed in Active Directory site 'DR'...

And that's my real problem. I didn't remember that Exchange is site based.

What are my options now?
Could I install CAS and HUB just to complete the install and then ignore them or they will cause problems with my primary site?

In the end, what do you think should I do?

At this point I could re-think the all thing.

Thank you and sorry for the grammar

Migration LOtus Domino 853Toward E2013 CU2 with Quest NME 48

Hello Guys,

I am in search of somebody who uses NME 48 to migrate to E2013 CU2 from Lotus 853.

Pb : All the messages with a size superior to 500 Ko(Kb) indicate a limitation of  information store when migrated.

Below a sample of an error message :

17:22:15 Error: message size exceeds that authorized for this user (this is translated the real msg is in French :Error: La taille du message en cours d'envoi dépasse celle autorisée pour cet utilisateur)

17:22:15 Component: Microsoft Exchange Information Store

17:22:15 Low level error: 000004DA

We verify that : no restrictrion on IS, no quota on user mailbox, send (with Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2013)Inside the E2013 org message until 12 Mo (the limit we specified) is all right (test send receive Attachment etc...).

Event viewer with no warning, no error, everything all right.

Found this in quest forum :

1) The mail message if too large for the Exchange Information Store

2) The mailbox has reached capacity

3) Changes to the Transport and Storage limits in Exchange Information Store may not have taken effect yet. May sure to restart the Transport Service for the change to take effect

These 3 points have been checked and doesn' matter in the exchange 2013 organisation.

Configuration : 2 DC 2 E2013 2 Lotus Domino 853 in the same AD Domain, no complication !

Does anybody meet with this situation and could solve it ?

Help would be appreciate because we are stuck because of that restriction.

No Access to modern Public Folders (Exchange 2013) from Windows XP

Hi there,

i tried a lot and did a lot of research so i just want to share that information. When you try to open the Public Folders from XP Client you receive:

Windows 7 works fine.

The Mailbox it self works fine, Outlook 2007 or 2010 (patched) makes no difference, Autodisdover works fine.

Regkey for XP is allready set:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa]
"lmcompatibilitylevel"=dword:00000003

Auth is set to NTLM.

We found this:

  1. Critical: 12/4 Outlook (all version) on Windows XP cannot access Exchange 2013 CU3 modern Public Folders, when their mailbox is on 2013 CU3 server
    • Only critical if you have Windows XP clients, which many organizations still do
    • Workaround: Have users use OWA or W7+ workstation

Migrate from Kerio 8.1 to Exchange 2013

I've finally been given the go ahead to implement Exchange 2013 and get rid of our Kerio 8.1 server but didn't expect to come up against so many problems migrating mailboxes etc. I've done migrations to exchange in the past and have used the transporter tool to do most things for me but have since found out MS don't support this under Exchange 2013 as MS feel 3rd party tools do a better job. I've spent hours looking and i've not been able to find a single 3rd party tool to carry out this migration, has anyone done a similar thing? If i were going the other way kerio have helpfully created a migration tool but it seems MS are lagging behind in this respect.

Unable to access Exchange 2013 EAC/ECP webpage

Hi All,

Getting extremely frustrated now with a new Exchange 2013 installation on a Windows Server 2012 VM...

After having a lot of problems with the installation (didn't uninstall visual c++ which caused failure, then needed to delete the AD Microsoft Exchange System Objects group due to permission failures, etc) I've now got a fully installed Exchange server. Still, now I cannot figure out how to fix my next problem - Accessing the EAC/ECP.

I've searched every possible web guide/forum thread and the only one which is the same issue I'm having is this one: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesvradmin/thread/89c42771-78c9-4d94-88e5-557320eccc71

Unfortunately, as you can see in that thread, it is still unresolved.

Current Issue: trying to access https://localhost/ecp (or any other variation) returns a 404 Not Found.

The error page points the physical path to c:\inetpub\wwwroot\ecp however that folder does not exist. I have tried manually changing the IIS site (Exchange Back End) to point its physical path to C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\ClientAccess\ecp which seems to be valid, however it doesn't work...

Not sure what else to do... HELP!

Exchange\Domain Split

$

Before I begin, yes I tried searching for an answer.  Scenario:  Company 1 is splitting into Company 1 and Company 2 (legal reasons).  Company 1 will keep existing Domain (Server 2008r2) and Exchange (2010) with hardware.  Company 2 received new hardware, a new Domain (Server 2012) and Exchange (2013) connected via federated trust.  As of right now we have one Public IP for email for both domains (to receive for Company 2, but send as Company 1). After reading through forums I understand its possible to have a connector between the two Exchange servers to deliver\send email from Company 1 to Company 2 and vice versa.  But, since we need total separation legally, this is not an option.  Question:  Is it possible to have two exchange servers with separate domain names on one public IP address without a connector between the two?  Or is it better to get another public IP address and use our DNS provider to point to separate public IP addresses?  Thank You- Daniel

PST import - Problem when replying to old e-mail

Hi,

When using New-MailboxImportRequest to import PST files to Exchange 2013 CU2 we end up with a succesful import. When the end-user tries to reply to an old e-mail the "To" field is just populated with the Display Name of the user that sent the mail. Not the smtp or X500 address. See the attached picture.

If we use Outlook to import the issue does not occurs.

We have tried with different versions of Exchange as source mailsystem and different versions of Outlook as export tool with the same result.

Is this a known issue?

Best regards, Jesper

Exchange 2013 with existing 2010 users- issues with ECP on 2010 server when proxyed through 2013

$

Hello,

I'm in process of migration users from Exchange 2010 to 2013 and there is some issue i faced regarding ECP redirection.

Internally all works good, but as soon Exchange 2013 is doing proxyng  part (internally or externally) there is issue with non-working links and information that are not shown, as you can see in attached picture below.

my environment have:

2  Exchange 2013 CU 2 (2008 R2) CAS/MBX servers facing Internet with hostname mail.mydomain.com

2 Exchange 2010 SP3 CAS servers (NLB but i guess it is not relevant for this situation) external hostname same as in 2013 servers

2 Exchange 2010 SP3 Mailbox servers (in DAG replication, also irrelevant per my opinion)

Checked application logs on every server - no luck.

If user is on Exchange 2013, all works good.

Tried with recreating ECP directories on both sides- no luck either.

Attached is image how situation actually looks. you click on any link- nothing happens.

Any information or help is highly valuable.

Thanks!!

Exchange 2013 multi-site design

$

Hello,

Please can anyone indicate me some values for the network bandwidth requirements for the following case:

4 Sites, each connected with 20Mb MPLS. Actually there is one non MS Mail system in each site. the 20Mb are 80% used in busniness Hour.
Site 1 : 200 users
Site 2 : 400 users
Site 3 : 600 users
Site 4 : 800 users (the "central site" with SMTP gateway)

The migration plan is to move to a multi-site DAG with active-passive DB in respective site + one lagged passive of each site in the "central" site.

By my lecture, the designe would be :

- 1 DAG covering the 4 sites
- 1 CAS Array per site
- 1 HLB per CAS Array

Can you please indicate me :
- if my design understanding is correct.
- the required bandwidth per user (20-50 mails per day at most, but as Exchange doesn't do deduplication, one email with 5Mo attachement sent to say, 100 users, represent 500Mo (Not Mb) of transfert, isn't it?
- if exchange 2013 DAG DB copy replication can be configured to be restricted to Of-business hours (per DB). Most needed in the time of coexistence/migration, when replication Data will be hughe..

Well, I would like real life multi-site replication experiments advice.. please.. would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you a lot

Migrate Exchange 2007 sp3 RU10 to Exchange 2013 with Windows Server 2008 R2 sp1

Hi All

would like to know that if exchange 2007 sp3 RU 10 is workable to coexist with exchange 2013 ? i have an exchange 2007 sp3 RU 10 running in the organization, and recently i have installed another new server exchange 2013 in the same forest (another DC with same domain name), with Mailbox and CAS roles installed, and i try to login to the management console pagehttps://localhost/ecp , the error message said

Your mailbox can't be accessed using the address
you entered. To obtain the correct address, please contact your helpdesk.

does it means that i have to move mailbox that with admin right from exchange 2007 to 2013 first before i can login to the management console page of exchange 2013 ? also i have tried to move mailbox from exchange 2007 to the 2013, but failed, it said can not find the global catelog services from both exchange 2007 and 2013 server, also step that i did wrong ? and please share the possible solution, Thx

exchange 2013 autodiscover

$

Hi,

2 questions about autodiscover, that I believe has changed since 2010.

small test setup. 1 server with mailbox role, 2 servers with cas role.

load balanced name for outlook anywhere= cas.domain.com (also webservices)

made the correct urls and auth on cas1, and published only cas1 in dns (outlook only get ip for that cas server).

only changed the -AutoDiscoverServiceInternalUri on cas2 to point to cas.domain.com

Okey, in 2010 exchange outlook would get SCP from AD (pick the oldest not alwas true), connect to that CAS and get the settings provided to that CAS server!

In my exchange 2013 test. outlook receives SCP from AD, it returns cas.domain.com and then I KNOW i connects only to cas1 as I control that with the dns entry. BUT, outlook now gets autodiscover settings from both cas servers, so natrually i get cert warning as I have not changed the settings on cas2. (I know that I must make the same settings on CAS2  - this is just to understand wats going on behind the scene)

1. Anyone know about dokumentation about this new behavior ? MS ?

2. In outlook autodiscover test i get 1 EXCH, 1 EXPR, 1 WEB and 2 EXHTTP. I know that the 2 EXHTTP is because of the new InternalHostname parameter, but then what info does the EXPR then provide ?  Dokumentation around that ? MS ?

Exchange 2007/2013 Co-Existence legacy question

$

Hi,

We are currently running Exchange 2007 and have recently installed Exchange 2013. Up until this point we have had no Exchange services published externally via ISA/TMG.

The 2013 server is now installed and we have pointed our internal autodiscover.contoso.com record to the 2013 CAS so far so good. We have also created a legacy.contoso.com internal A record to point to the Exchange 2007 CAS.

Our ultimate goal will be to enable Exchange hybrid /365 and with that in mind we have bought a public certificate with mail.contoso.com and legacy.contoso.com as SAN.

I've also Set-WebServicesVirtualDirectory internal and external urls to legacy.contoso.com

My question now is what to do with the new cert that we've installed on the 2013 CAS. Does this also need installing on the 2007 CAS for legacy to work ? If so do I just import-exchangecertificate on the 2007 CAS and if so to what services ?

Thanks

Does the Exchange role upgrade order still apply for SP 3

$

Microsoft's release notes don't mention the order.

I want to start with the transport hubs. They have the least customization on them and would be quick to rebuild if it goes bad.

It seems like the service pack and rollup order is convention but not a requirement by Microsoft.

thanks,

hello guys, I need a help, I'm starting the process of migrating my Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010 already have the certificate with legacy names and webmail already installed on both exchange, so change the URLs for legacy exchange 2007 can have some impact or unavailability in this amendment? so this is what needs to change? in Exchange 2007 I change the URLs for legacy and Exchange 2010 URLs for webmail.

Public Folder Migration Fails from Exchange 2007 to 2013

I am attempting to sync public folders between Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2013.  All the data has been copied over to the Exchange 2013 server but I am getting an error when creating the folders and their permissions.

I saw a previous thread which looked similar and I have set the bad item limit to one million as well as set mail-disable on the source public folders but I am still receiving these errors.

I set the following commands

Get-PublicFolderMigrationRequest | Set-PublicFolderMigrationRequest -baditemlimit 1000000

Get-PublicFolderMigrationRequest | Resume-PublicFolderMigrationRequest

and on the source mailbox server:

Get-publicfolder \Non_IPM_subtree -Recurse | Disable-MailPublicFolder

Discovered WRONG url for EWS

Both my Internal and external URL point to https://remote.mydomain.co.uk/owa/EWS/Exchange.asmx

I think this should be https://remote.mydomain.co.uk/EWS/Exchange.asmx

I also found that Basic authentication is NOT set.

Would this fix it ?

Set-WebServicesVirtualDirectory -Identity Contoso\EWS(Default Web Site)-ExternalUrl https://www.contoso.com/EWS/exchange.asmx -BasicAuthentication $true -InternalUrl https://contoso.internal.com/EWS/exchange.asmx

(is there any possibility of ANYTHING that's currently working being effected by the above Command?)

Migration from Exchange 2007 to 2013 between different domain

Hi,

Our company have two domains controller (AD1 and AD2) but it is not trusted. Due to company change, we need to plan merge two domains to new domain (AD3). Under the plan, we will user ADMT for user object migration and password.

For Exchange, we will plan to use Exchange 2013 on new domain. I want to know that what is the best way to migrate all mailboxes from AD1 and AD2 to AD3's new exchange server. We need to migrate over 500+ mailboxes.

Please anyone to suggest what is the best way to do it ?

The log itself is quite large, this is just the end of it.  The installer goes through the prompts for EULA, and checking prerequisites, and creating binaries, and then shortly after the services stop, it errors out.

free/busy information in 2007/2013 coexisitance

I'm in the process of migrating from a single server 2007 exchange environment to a multi server 2013 environment. I'm at the point where I want to move a small group of users to the 2013 serves to do some testing. The only issue holding that back is anyone on the 2007 server cannot view free/busy information of a user on the 2013 servers. This does work when a 2013 tries to lookup a 2007 users free/busy information.

Anyone have any idea why that would be?
