Exchange Server 2013 CU21 to CU22 after upgrade clients can't connect

$

I upgraded from CU21 to CU22 and after I rebooted all the services came up just fine. But I can't reach OWA/ECP at all and I've gone into IIS and checked the certificates, ports, and binding IP addresses as well and they all look normal. I've tried an unattended setup after I did the GUI upgrade .\setup.exe /m:upgrade /iacceptexchangeserverlicenseterms and it completes just fine as well. Still can't get any Outlook clients to connect. Which leads me to believe it's something to do with the Default Web Site as well as Exchange Back End in IIS. I'm running Server 2012 R2. I tried uninstalling IIS then did a complete unattended upgrade again hoping it would re-create the IIS pre-requisites as well as the correct permissions and directories in IIS. None of these solutions have worked. What am I missing?

Thanks in advance!

Content Index Unknown State after Exchange 2013 CU15 update

Hi guys - I have just upgraded to CU15 and when checking Get-MailboxDatabaseCopyStatus | FL Name,*Index* I receive the following:-

Name                         : MDB1\CERBERUS
ContentIndexState            : Unknown
ContentIndexErrorMessage     : Could not find registry value of Index Status for database
                               {2c569645-36e4-4906-848d-5c38d67c7574}.

ContentIndexBacklog          :
ContentIndexRetryQueueSize   :
ContentIndexMailboxesToCrawl :
ContentIndexSeedingPercent   :
ContentIndexSeedingSource    :
ContentIndexServerSource     :

I have tried all the usual fixes.

Deleting content index folder and restarting Search services.

I have also created a new database and migrated mailboxes across, hoping a new DB might fix it - no luck..

This has not resolved the issue, as I suspect the registry keys are the issue here.

When checking HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ExchangeServer\v15\Search\IndexStatus there are no keys present.

This is a single Exchange 2013 server, so I do not have another server to copy the keys from.

Any ideas?

I need to Exchange Server Cumulative Update 7 Installer file so that I can proceed with the installation of CU22

I am attempting to update my Exchange 2013 server that is currently on CU7 to CU22.  When I attempt to install CU22, it prompts me for the CU7 installer file which I no longer have.  It used to be available as a download here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2986485/cumulative-update-7-for-exchange-server-2013

But has since been removed.  I cannot proceed with this upgrade without this file, which I have been told is only available from Microsoft.

Thank you,

Jonathan

Exchange - cluster (best practices for upgrading vmware tools)

Hi there.

Two Exchange 2013 servers.

Exchange primary and Exchange Secondary are in DAG.

We have manually configured Exchange secondary as passive exchange (no automatic activation of databases on it)

We need to upgrade vmware tools on primary Exchange server.

What are the best practices?

Should we stop any services on primary Exchange before upgrading Vmware tools (cluster service, exchange services?)

With best regards

Exchange 2010 - EWS and disabling TLS 1.0

$

Hi all,

Due to the POODLE vulnerability and TLS 1.0 showing as enabled on one of our external scans, we were informed that we would need to disable SSL 3.0 and TLS 1.0 on our Exchange server.

Apparently, this wouldn't even be possible until Update Rollup 9 was released on 3/16/15:

Rollup resolves:

KB 3029667 SMTP is not transported over TLS 1.1 or TLS 1.2 protocol in an Exchange Server 2010 environment

After installing this update, SSL 3.0 and TLS 1.0 were disabled and the servers rebooted (cross site, same domain, two Exchange servers).  After resolving some issues with certificates that apparently broke as a result of the changes, we found that EWS was not working - the log full of these errors:

Process 5776: ProxyWebRequest CrossSite from S-1-5-21-3895483984-2032760896-3917300074-1259 tohttps://mail.exchange.com:443/ews/exchange.asmx failed. Caller SIDs: NetworkCredentials. The exception returned is Microsoft.Exchange.InfoWorker.Common.Availability.ProxyWebRequestProcessingException: System.Net.WebException: The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a send. ---> System.IO.IOException: Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.

------------------------------------------------------

The EWS directory in IIS on both servers are set to use Anonymous and Windows Authentication.  The main issues observed outside of the above errors was that free/busy information could not be viewed.

After rebuilding the EWS virtual directory and a couple reboots later, we tried enabling TLS 1.0 on both servers, rebooted, and there were no more EWS errors to be found - free/busy was also working.

So it appears that although this rollup allows SMTP to use TLS 1.1 or 1.2, EWS is still attempting to use TLS 1.0, and I don't see that it is possible to change this

I have tried to redownload the CU22, Its extract with no problem.

The server had not been patched for a long time, so I When durring the process of updating windows to Current update, and then update to .net 472 before trying til install first the CU21 - which failed with the same error as, the CU22 :-(

My guess it's its something local on the server causing the issue, since its both CU 21 and CU22 which fails with ApaAgentPerfCounters.h.

I have don a procmon off the installation, and the MSI have access to the \ApaAgentPerfCounters.h file. What todo ??

Installing CU Adds Full Control Permissions Messes with Automapping

$

When I install an Exchange CU, my user account gets added with Full Control access to CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=example,DC=com.

This causes a problem for me with the automapping feature.  When I add full control access of a mailbox, the mailbox does get auto-mapped in Outlook for me.  But when I remove full control access, the mailbox remains in Outlook and a deny permission gets set on the mailbox.  I end up having a mailbox in my Outlook that I cannot open.

So, to resolve, I have to do two things.

1. Open ADSI, navigate to CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=example,DC=com, open the security properties, and remove my account.

2. Run the following PowerShell commands:

Get-OrganizationConfig | Remove-ADPermission -user "USER.NAME" -ExtendedRights Send-As -deny
Get-OrganizationConfig | Remove-ADPermission -user "USER.NAME" -ExtendedRights Receive-As -deny

Is there any way to stop the CU installer from adding my account with Full Control permission to the Microsoft Exchange service configuration OU in the AD?

cannot remove corrupted mailbox after manually removing exchange with adsi edit and reinstalling it?

Hi,

I installed exchange 2013. The installation went bad I had to uninstall it manually from ADSI edit, then deleted the VM. I installed exchange 2013 once again. I log into ecp, I find under recipients the old mailboxes created with the old exchange server. when I try to delete them or move them, the following error shows:

The object domain/Users/someuser has been corrupted, and it's in an inconsistent state. The following validation errors happened:
Database is mandatory on UserMailbox.

digging around on the net, I followed this link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2702446?wa=wsignin1.0

but I noticed that my homeMDB is not set.

also following this link: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd535374(EXCHG.80).aspx

I noticed that I dont have anything under this location in adsi edit, while it states that there are some child objects

config...\config...domain\services\microsoft exchange\org-name\administrative groups\ex...admin..groups id\servers\mailbox\informationstore

Should I have ran setup /prepschema and setup /prepad, i didn't because in MS documentation it stated that if the account is a member of enterprise admin and schema admins the schema and AD and Domain preparation would be done by the wizard.

If its partially prepared, can I run them commands again without causing problems?

I can create new users just fine, all I want is to delete these recipients and create a new working ones. also I want to know is my exchange setup right, because I don't want to face major problems when we go live.

its been 3 weeks hitting my head against the wall, help please.

Switching between Exchange 2013 on 2008R2 Server to Exchange 2013 on 2012R2

$

Looking for some advice on how or if I should do this. I currently have an Exchange 2013 server functioning normally on a 2008R2 VM. I am wanting to get the jump on phasing out all my 2008R2 servers to 2012R2 or 2016.

I have experience installing Exchange 2013 on 2012R2 in my home environment and it runs very smoothly (In one of my IT Classes I was told that EXCH2013 was actually designed to run on 2012) Does anyone have experience running EXCH2013 on 2016 Server? Does it run well on that newer OS?

If I decide to install a new EXCH2013 server in my work environment, (on 2012R2 or 2016) Will I have to create a new database and migrate all the email boxes over (like when we upgraded from EXCH2010 to 2013) , or can I simply mount the old database in the new server?

I believe if I do this, the server will have to be treated like a completely new fresh installation and the server must actually have a different name as well.

Thank you

Exchange 2013 hybrid to O365 a litle more info

HI

I need to create a hybrid environment for my exchange org, have read a bunch of "howto's" and they go about this a lot off different ways so I need to some more info:

My setup is as for now:

I run Exchange 2013 (cu21) onprem

I have a O365 tennant and Azure AD Connect functioning for passwords (I noticed there was an Exchange option there also)

The goal is to go "Full hybrid" and stay like that.

But I am thinking of upgrading to exchange onprem to 2019, so the question is how would you go about this?

    • Upgrade Exchange onprem first?
    • Go hybrid first?

Also can I make Exchange online the primary mx while using exchange onprem  like smarthost for all outgoing mail?

And I was thinking og using this article as guidelines for this work.

Will I have to change Azure AD connect's options?

Outlook 2016 Clients Intermittently Disconnect at initial login

HI, we have a very random (once in a month if that issue) random users onsite / remote using OUtlook 2016 desktop client (Windows 7 or Windows 10) upon logging into Windows, they launch Outlook, and right away they get the credential pop up window.  We have cleared the credential manager, even setup a brand new PC for some users, and intermittently at random, only at initial logging into Outlook do they get this credential manager to enter creds for Outlook.  Once they click "cancel" and at the bottom corner of OUtlook, they just double click "Enter Password" and Outlook connects automatically...no more issues.

It is hit and miss, the issue cannot be replicated.

The issue started 2 years ago when we were on Exchange 2010, and then migrated to Exchange 2013, the issue still exists randomly, it has recently affected some senior management so the issue is pressing now to get resolved.

I ran Health Check all is showing Green

ran Exchange RCA, 1 thing comes out,
