Increase functional level Active Directory with Exchange 2013

I justmigratemyActive Directoryservers thatwereinstalled on Windows Server 2008R2 toWindowsServer 2012R2.

Public folder limits question

Lookin at this:

And have some troubles of understanding a few things.

Maximum individual public folder size: 10 GB (This limit doesn’t include subfolders beneath a single folder. )

Does this means that inside Public folder mailbox u can have:

A)

FOLDER1 (10GB)

SUBFOLDER1 (0GB)

or

B)
FOLDER1 (10GB)

SUBFOLDER1(10GB), SUBFOLDER2(10GB), etc...

One more thing regarding recommendations for how many numbers of public folder mailboxes should we create.

I see that LIMIT (Public folder mailbox size=100GB).

Currently we have 30GB big EDB PUBLIC FOLDER on EXCHANGE2010. When we migrate this to Exchange2013 it Will be enough to create one and only PF mailbox, right?

And my third (last) question is. How Will users see this public folder in Outlook? Still the same as before, clickin on three dots and opening folders?

In which DB does this command: New-Mailbox -PublicFolder <Name> -HoldForMigration:$true, creates public folder mailbox?

Can you choose to which DB it should go?

Migrate mailboxes AFTER admt has been ran. Crossforest (interforest) migration (2010 to 2010)

Our system administrators already used ADMT to migrate our users, taking all defaults.  However, our email admin didn't know he should have ran prepare-moverequest.ps1 beforehand.   So we now have our target users, of course, without various Exchange attributes that ADMT excludes by default, including proxyaddresses, which the .ps1 file needs. 

Is there any way to easily transfer whichever attributes (instead of doing manually one-by-one per user) the prepare-moverequest.ps1 script will need, from the source to the target domain/forest, so we can then migrate the mailboxes to the new server?

I found this script    http://blog.powershell.no/tag/exchange-server-cross-forestadmt/     this guy made to get around the issue.   Should this work?

OWA Redirection from Exchange 2013 to 2007

Hi,

I have Exchange 2013 and 2007 running in coexistence and Outlook clients can connect to their respective mailboxes.

I am however going round in circles now with OWA which I am currently testing internally first before rolling out to external users.

I've read and followed various articles and seem to be getting a step closer each time and hopefully someone can point me in the right direction for the final hurdle!

The issue we are having is as follows:

We enter URL of https://mail.mycompany.com/owa which in turn presents the 2013 OWA page.  We enter credentials for a 2013 mailbox user and get straight into OWA no problems at all.

So we do the same with a 2007 mailbox user, enter credentials "domain\user", OWA redirects and presents a second login screen which I can see is to connect to the legacy.mycompany.com/owa site.

However after entering the credentials for the second time, the web page refreshes and takes the user back the original 2013 landing page.

Grateful for any suggestions.

Certificate Proxy Error Internally After Certificate Change (domain changed)

Hi All,

I had reason to change email domains for a company that used to have it's internal (AD Domain) match it's external (Email Domain).  During this process I changed the SSL cert from a wildcard (*.internaldomain.com) to a wildcard for the new external domain.  I also had a situation where I had to implement a split DNS due to autodiscover etc.. requirements internally.  The split DNS has entries for mail, autodiscover and the two (in this case) exchange servers which are clustered for DAG.

However I now have a problem where everything works externally fine and I get a match with the new certificate, however internally I get two issues (not sure if they are related):

1) Outlook gives me the following error:  "There is a problem with the proxy server's security certificate. The name on the security certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the target site ServerA.internaldomain.com
Outlook is unable to connect to the proxy server. (Error Code 10)

2) An SSL missmatch error for the new external wildcard saying that the servername exchangeserver.internaldomain.com does not match.

I have changed all the sevices (EWS/ECP/OWA/OAB etc..) for the new domain name and restarted IIS.  I have also tried to configure the services for internal domain to use the new domain name as as well (I can do this as the split DNS uses internal IP's) with no success. I have also set the msstd settings for EXH, EXP and WEB to the new wilcard cert.

What have I missed if anything? Possibly it was configured incorrectly before and didn't throw an error because the external domain matched the internal domain?  Much thanks if anybody can help here as I am pulling my hair out.

Is it safe to delete self-sign exchange certificate ?

The default self-signed Exchange certificate on one of Exchange 2010 HUB/CAS is expiring. I generated a new one with expiration date set to 9/29/2020. Is it safe to delete the expiring certificate at this point ? Someone on web says the self-signed certificate is used for communication among exchange servers. Should I check anything before delete it? ? Thanks in Advance !

Office 365 Integration with Exchange 2010

Hello All.............I am running a small organization on a single box exchange 2010 with around 500 mailboxes. I want to implement Office 365, but want to keep only few users on the new Office 365 solution, can someone give a list of things that would be required to integrate Office 365 with my exchange 2010 messaging system. Would I be needing to move to 2013 first/

Hi,

My environment is a single server machine, single domain small scale company.

To retire the SBS 2003, I installed Exchange Svr 2010 SP3 over a single domain machine running Windows Svr 2012 R2, purposely migrate emails from the SBS2003 server.

After the migration, I want to ask is it possible to upgrade the Exchange 2010 SP3 to Exchange 2013 SP1 directly on the same server machine? If not, is there any easy way to do the upgrade (since I purchase the Exchange 2013 SP1 and the CALs, not the 2010 exchange server licenses) without purchase another new hardware?

Legacy proxy PF vs Migrate PF

Hi guys. Durring cooexistence EX2010 & EX2013 we have followed this instructions for LEGACY PUBLIC FOLDERS enablement:

One of the commands that we needed to run was also:

Set-OrganizationConfig -PublicFoldersEnabled Remote -RemotePublicFolderMailboxes ProxyMailbox1-on-ex2010

Now after we have already migrated all the users (and arbitration mailboxes) from ex2010 -> ex2013 we are in phase of moving public folders and we are following this instructions:

Now the thing that concerns me is:

Step 7: Finalize the public folder migration (downtime required)
Set-OrganizationConfig -PublicFoldersEnabled Remote

As you can see we are using the same command as we did on settin' up "Proxy-legacy-public-folder".

Durring the cooexistence we have also ran this command:

Set-OrganizationConfig -PublicFoldersEnabled Local

So current settings are that PublicFoldersEnabled is set on LOCAL.

Now the thing is that if we run Get-

OrganizationConfig | fl on exchange 2013 we see that RemotePublicFolderMailboxes is still pointing to "ProxyMailbox1-on-ex2010" because that configuration was done durring "Proxy-legacy-public-folder".

What changes do you need to do if you have done Proxy legacy public folder and now you are in the PF migration process? We should probably "empty/clear" that -RemotePublicFolderMailboxes parameter which is pointing to "ProxyMailbox1-on-ex2010", right?

power shell not find two users

I have two server exchange 2007 and migrated mailbox to new 2013. Part maibox I must run cmdlet "Set-MoveRequest <user@domain> –BadItemLimit 50" and move all successfully. But two users power shell not know say "Couldn't find a move request that corresponds to the specified identity..." This users are usualy created and not set anything to other users.

Exchange 2007 Impersonation Help

Hi guys i'm looking for a script for Exchange 2007 to apply impersonation rights for UserA to UserB and UserC. But heres the catch, all three users mentioned are in childdomain8.domain.com and not the parent domain.

I'd like a command to check that the settings have been applied against . I'm familair with exchange powershell but since this infrastructure has so many child domains i cant seem to figure out how to run the commands in the subdomains. 

Also do i have to add impersonation on the case server? Think i read that somewhere but not sure.

Migrate PF EX2010 to EX2013 failed

Hi guys.

We are doing last step of migration from ex2010 to ex2013, migratin pf's.

Followin: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn912663(v=exchg.150).aspx

At the step 5 we have ran: Start-MigrationBatch PublicFolderMigration

The MigrationBatch completed with status failed.

To repeat the process can we just re-run by running commands:

New-MigrationBatch -Name PFMigration -SourcePublicFolderDatabase (Get-PublicFolderDatabase -Server <Source server name>) -CSVData (Get-Content <Folder to mailbox map path> -Encoding Byte) -NotificationEmails <email addresses for migration notifications>

Start-MigrationBatch PublicFolderMigration

Or do we need to "clear-out / delete" the previous batch process thru GUI (exchange adminstrative center / mailboxes / migration and clickin trash button-?).

we have restarted ex2010/ex2013 servers and we Will try it again, but dont know if we need to delete previous"failed" batch process on ex2013 before startin new?

Search not working in OWA after migrate ex2010->ex2013 (disabled/enabled index on DB)

Hi there.

Migrated mailboxes from ex2010 to ex2013.

Durring the migration we have disabled indexing on databases.

We have created 20 dbs on exchange2013.

After we have migrated all the users from ex2010 to ex2013 we have enabled index on all the dbs on exchange 2013.

"production databases" (10dbs) hold 170 GB, archive databases (10dbs) hold 900 GB.

We are experiencing issues on Outlook client. For example if users goes to sent items and types sth to search, search does not return results.

Could this be regarding disabling index on databases on exchange 2013 durring migration, and then enablin it after mailboxes were migrated?

What can we do to solve the problem?

Checking if the Online Archiving Policies are working

Is there anyway to check to see if the Online Archiving Policies are working? I know it use to work for us a few weeks ago before we had to change our server to FQDN for new SSL cert but we have submitted changes on people mailboxes and I don't see the mail moving from the main mailbox to archive mailbox. I can't fine any commands for the shell to see if it working or not. We have it set to process them every day and know it takes in to account the server load but we made changes to peoples mailboxes days ago..

Exchagne 2010 Server Deployment

Apologies, this is for Exchange 2010 and I don't see it listed in the forum section, so I went with 2013.

I am installing Exchange 2010 in a new environment (no existing Exchange Servers), I carried out all the prep work (I have installed Exchange 2010 before without issue) but for some reason the mailbox role failed, with this error:

Couldn't mount the database that you specified. Specified database: test; Error code: An Active Manager operation failed. Error: The database action failed. Error: Operation failed with message: MapiExceptionNotFound: Unable to mount database. (hr=0x8004010f, ec=-2147221233)
[Database: test, Server: SP-EX03.xxxx.xx].

I did what Microsoft suggested and I forced it to book for the GC Server but this didn't make any difference and it seems the mailbox role actually hasn't been installed (even though it says it has been).  Also, when I tried to open the other roles, I get "You don't have permission to view this role".  As i said, this is a new install, so no data as yet....any advice?

IMAP stopped working after CU10

IMAP crashed and not working after applying the CU10 on top of Exchange 2013 CU10. I read the KB that "This issue occurs because Internet Mail Access Protocol (IMAP) does not support the generic security services application programming interface (GSSAPI) as an authentication mechanism in a Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 environment "

and I tried to enable Set-IMAPSettings –EnableGSSAPIAndNTLMAuth:$FALSE

and no luck, still IMAP asking for a credentials again and again. POP is working fine.
I can see the IMAP protocol log, there are msgs
