Trying to finalize my deployment but I'm seeing (a ton of) Event Log Errors, Event 3 System.ServiceModel 4.0.0.0 listing EWS and Autodiscovery

These errors occur 2-3 times a minute. the environment is in migration from Exch 2007 to Exch 2013. I can send and receive emails from/to the Exch 2013 server using the new account created following the deployment assistant.

Also, the services failing include EWS (shown below) as well as Autodiscovery.

The service '/EWS/exchange.asmx' cannot be activated due to an exception during compilation.  The exception message is: Could not find a base address that matches scheme http for the endpoint with binding WebHttpBinding. Registered base address schemes are [https].. ---> System.InvalidOperationException: Could not find a base address that matches scheme http for the endpoint with binding WebHttpBinding. Registered base address schemes are [https].

How to take Exchange Management Shell Set-transportconfigure -maxsendsize command effectively?

Dear Sir,

Customer would like to change the Exchange 2013 send attachment size limit from 10MB default to 20MB in standard version with SP1.  I understand that it can be done in the Exchange management shell using the command:

- Set-TransportConfigure -MaxSendSize 20000000

However, it seems that this command can only take effectively until reboot or restart Exchange Information Store service. I find that it will not capable to take command effectively if restart exchange transport service.  If stop and restart the IS service, it will cause interruption of user access email.  Do it has any other command or solution to take the action immediately without interrupt user by restarting IS service?

If I doesn't take any action of restart service, anyone know what is the default time need to wait unit the command action take effective?

Installing exchange 2013 in a SINGLE server 2012 PDC enviroment

Who would ever had thought this would even be an issue. but it is.

I am having trouble installing exchange 2013 in a SINGLE server 2012 PDC enviroment.

Got through prerequisite checks and setup fails at mailbox role:cleint access service

Could not grant Network Service access to the certificate with thumbprint ABC7....... because a cryptographic exception was thrown.".

gave the cert the permissions it wanted and still failed.

This small of an environment does not justify multiple servers.

Is there any way to pull off an exchange 2013 install in a single PDC environment.

if not, what is the next easiest step.

Thanks, John

Exchange Server is unable to deliver Oracle Payslips for External Users

Dear All,

I have an Exchange Server running in my organization and is successfully serving to internal users. By using one of the POP3 tool i am successfully receiving external user emails to Exchange Server as well. But i have few confusions and problems

1. I have oracle based payslip system that is unable to send payslip to those who have their emails on yahoo and hotmail but it successfully sends to all who are confiigured with exchange server. How to resolve this???

2. Second issue is why we need to use POP3 external tools to setup with Exchange in order to handly pop3 mails.?? why exchange do not have such functionality???

3. Lastly, I have implemented One Exchange Server along with its DAG as high availability. for external users we have configured our ms record entries to the domain hosting company and whenever they have issue in their firewall they block exchange public ip addresses and our external email are then blocked. What is the recommended Exchange Scenario in this regards???

Thanks

Calendar Free busy displays hash for users on Exchange 2010

We have 150 users moved to Exchange 2013 as are pilot.   These users including my account have difficulty scheduling meetings.  When reviewing free/busy data, users who are still on Exchange 2010 display and hash marks for availability.  Pressing Alt-k  will refresh and eventually display free/busy, but takes several minutes, and some users may never display free/busy info.

Any ideas on how to resolve?  Other than quickly moving the remaining 3500 users to 2013.

Thanks, Tony

Exchange Server 2003 to 2013

We currently have a Exchange 2003 server setup on a Windows Server 2003 small business server. Domain controller is running on the same computer.

I have setup a VCenter infrastructure and have created a new network with two VMs running Windows 2012 (Exchange 2013 & Domain)

The current exchange server is live and running with about 30 users.

What is the best route to continue using the existing Domain name?

I want to archive all eixistng mail boxes and start fresh with the exchange 2013 server.

How to install CU8 on a Exchange 2013-server?

$

I have some issues with one of my Exchange2013-servers and want to upgrade from CU4 to CU8 to see if this will correct the issues. 2 questions:

  • Where can I find step-by-step documentation on how to perform the upgrade, including the necessary steps to prepare AD?
  • I have found articles saying that any customizations on the servers will be lost, what kind of customizations could this be? I hope that all setup with connectors, URLs and so on is preserved during the upgrade?

The server with the issues is member of a DAG.

Issues after Windows Updates

I seem to get quite a few issues after Microsoft updates, such as:

- Owa/ecp themes being corrupt

- Services being disabled (event 25/26/1310)

-  Server Manager failure (event 4999)

- Failed Database (event 1012)

These issues have occurred twice after Windows Updates, any ideas?

Exchange 2013 CUs do not remove earlier version files and folders

$

I have an Exchange 2013 installation started with SP1 that I have kept updated installing the Cumulative Updates when they were released.

I have observed that after each CU installation the C: free space (Exchange is installed on C:) was less then before. So I searched in the Exchange install directory and I have found a lot of sub-directories named with an Exchange build number, expecially under the ClientAccess install dir and the OWA subdir.

For instance, under C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\ClientAccess\Owa I have many folders named "15.0.995.28", "15.0.995.32", "15.0.1044.21", "15.0.1044.27", "15.0.1076.2", "15.0.1076.10".

The C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\ClientAccess\Owa\prem directory has the same subfolders and is consuming a lot of disk space.

As I could understand, the CU setup should remove the older files but it seems that it does not and keeps older version in these directories. I have tried installing a fresh Exchange 2013 CU8 on a new server and these directories are not present.

The question is: is that correct?

And: can I safely delete the older versions folders?

Thanks

Exchange 2013 Journal Rule Scope

$

Hello,

We currently have Exchange 2013 setup with a journal rule to journal all messages to a journal mailbox.  we are having issues since our migration to 2013 with our archiving solution to keep up with archiving these emails and removing them from the journal mailbox.  it seems like exchange is limiting the archiving solution from accessing the mailbox, which leads to a backlog in the mailbox until after business hours.  it then catches up.  to help with this, we were thinking about creating a journal rule for internal emails to go to one mailbox and external emails to go to another.

my question is what happens when an email has an internal and external recipient in this scenario?  will one of the rules handle this, or does this email get journaled twice (once by each rule)?

thanks,

Exchange not able to find Global Catalog

Greetings

I have Active Directory 2003 Setup and Exchange 2007 single server solution.

Recently, I promoted a new Domain Controller on Windows Server 2012 R2. Transferred all FSMO Roles to the new Windows 2012 R2 DC. Both the DC (Windows 2003 and Windows 2012 R2) holds Global Catalog.

I have changed the Configuration DC in Exchange Management Console pointing to new Windows 2012 R2 DC.

The issue is when i shutdown the Old Windows 2003 DC, the Exchange goes down and i see the error in Event logs that Exchange is unable to find the Global Catalog.

Kindly suggest.

Thanks in advance.

Exchange 2010 w/CAS Array (NLB) to Exchange 2013 migration

$

Hello,

This is an Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 migration question; how to introduce Exchange 2013 with existing Exchange 2010 CAS servers using NLB.

Currently my Exchange 2010 environment has 4 servers:
2 CAS/HUB (CAS Arrary using NLB)
2 MBX (DAG setup)

Goal is introduce 4 EX13 servers with High Availability (HA):
2 CAS (use NLB)
2 MBX  (use DAG)

The two EX10 CAS/HUB servers are part of a single CAS Array. High Availability is done using built-in Windows NLB, so both CAS/HUB servers are part of a single NLB cluster. The two MBX servers are part of single DAG.

I understand that EX13 no longer uses CAS arrays but rather OutlookAnywhere. My questions is how to introduce Exchange 2013 servers into the above environment and not break existing EX10. Installing the 2 EX13 MBX servers seems straight-forward, but cannot find guidance on how to introduce EX13 CAS servers when using NLB for HA.

When configuring the two EX13 CAS servers with NLB installed, am I joining the new servers to the existing EX10 NLB cluster or am I creating a new NLB cluster (new IPs, etc) that will have only the two new EX13 CAS servers as members?

Thanks in advance.

Cutover Migration Questions

$

For the past few months, we have been running a hybrid Exchange 2013 environment, and successfully migrated all student mailboxes to Exchange Online.

With the summer holidays approaching, we are looking to complete the process, and move all staff mailboxes over to Exchange Online, in what will be a cutover migration.

Having read through a couple of posts about similar scenarios, most suggest;

-          - First removing the users (whose mailboxes will be migrated), from Office 365, AFTER disabling DirSync on premises. These users in Office 365 currently don’t have assigned Exchange Online licences.

-          - Re-enable DirSync following the cutover.

My question is, for student mailboxes which were migrated over earlier in the year, how are these affected following the cutover? Obviously students won’t be included within the cutover batch, but these accounts still show in our on-premises EAC. A cutover migration allows for us to decommission our on-premises Exchange servers, but surely this would affect the visible student mailboxes. Is there another final step we need to complete, to permanently disassociate the mailboxes from our on-prem mail server? (was thinking routing addresses and the like)

Also, the step of disabling DirSync – is this enough, or does it need to be removed? Should it be disabled prior to removing the synchronised members of staff from Office 365?

How do we tear down our hybrid setup following the cutover?

Lots of questions I’m afraid.

Many thanks.

Server 2012 R2 Essentials and Exchange

$

I have a client (22 users) who is using SBS 2008. It is time to upgrade and I am planning on using Server 2012 R2 Essentials and Exchange 2013 SP1 on separate servers. I know we can add the Exchange server to the Essentials through the Essentials interface, but I have a question about OWA. The client has one static IP address. I want to point port 25 to the IP of the new Exchange server so incoming email is delivered there.  However, do I need a new static IP and a dedicated trusted certificate to do OWA or, by attaching the Exchange server through Essentials, will the Essentials Server automatically access OWA on the Exchange Server?

I'm sure someone is going to say "Use Outlook 365."  The cost is more expensive than an Exchange server for this client.  So, we need to configure it this way.

Any assistance is GREATLY appreciated.

Member of AD group?

In Ex2007/Win2008 our old server (Porter, decommissioned) was a member of "Cert Publishers" and "Exchange Domain Servers".

In Ex2013/Win2012 our new server (Pebbles) is not a member of these two groups.

Does Pebbles need to be a member of the two groups ("Cert Publishers" and "Exchange Domain Servers") that Porter was?
