Remove one Exchange 2013 server from the organization

Hi there!

We had an Exchange 2013 server playing all roles and providing all services to users. There was an issue where the RPC application pool and Exchange RPC client service was restarting every 20/30 minutes, thus every Outlook client was getting disconnected. We got Microsoft involved but we could not fix the issue at all. The workaround for that was to build a new server and migrate everything across to the new one.

The new server is solely running for over a week now, and the first server is down. No issues so far! All virtual directory URLs point to CNAME records that in turn point to the new server. Autodiscover, Availability, OOF, OAB, OWA, Outlook, etc all seems to be working fine. The new server is configured for SMTP (send/receive) and the certificate was also migrated over.

Now I want to remove the old server from the environment, and I just want to confirm whether uninstalling Exchange from Control panel will do the job. Should I pay attention to something particular? Is anyone aware of any manual process that has to be done prior/after uninstalling it completely?

What if the process get stuck at some point during uninstall? Is there a way of removing it manually from AD?

Thanks!
