We have an Existing Exchange 2010 server that is the transport, client access and mailbox server. No Edge Transport. There are about 220 mailboxes on the mail server taking up just over 200GB of mail. Of the 220 Mailboxes there are probably 80 users that are fairly active while the rest have only a handful if any new messages or access a day. So Overall a pretty small installation.
Current server is on a 2012 Hyper-V Cluster with Cluster shared storage. We have about 9TB of Free space on the DAS that is connected to the cluster.
We have had issues in the past where there is an issue with the mail server and all of our incoming mail is delayed at the sender until the server is functional again. Also when applying updates and Service packs I would like to Minimize the downtime of the users connecting and the incoming mail reaching the server.
1) Seems like since I have a Cluster that I should be using DAG and have Multiple Servers, though with a such a Small Mailbox footprint I don't want to over complicate things.
2) We have a Cisco ASA with a DMZ with nothing in it. Should we install a Transport server in the Cluster and Link it to the DMZ?
Any Suggestions/tips would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Scott<-
