Exchange 2013 in a two domain single forest scenario

Hi all,

We have a win2003 forest (named X) with a single win2003 dc with domain name "X.local".

We added a win2012 dc to the forest to add a new domain called "x.com". So a win2003 controls x.local and a windows2012 controls x.com. Both on same forest "X".

Forest functionality level remains at 2003.

we went to AD Users and computers in x.local (win2003)  and added the "domain admins" group from x.com to Enterprise Admins and Schema Group.

We then installed a new 2012 server to run exchange2013 setup. We are only interested in serving Exchange to the new X.COM domain.

We log in to this new server with the adminsitrator account from X.com domain.  The Exchange setup failed to run because the account we are using is "not part of Enterprise Admins of Schema Admins".

I am not sure if this behavior is expected. In this specific scenario (two domains single forest) shall we run the exchange2013 setup to do a forest prep in the win2003dc? and then go back to win2012 to run setup and do the install?.

Why the addition of the domain admin group to the Enterprise Admin was not recognized by exchange2013 setup?

thanks,
