Server Planning For Exchange 2010 Sp3

Hi All.

If anyone has experience with deploying Exchange Server 2010 with necessary hardware requirements it would be most appreciated.

Currently we have 5 sites each with an Exchanger Server 2003 sp2 per site. 100 or less mailboxes per server (Average size of mailbox = 800 mb - 1.5 gb)

We are planning to move to Exchange 2010 SP3 but currently I am finding it challenging to plan the hardware necessary.

We can either go one Typical role server per site with 100 mailboxes roughly on each server, also maybe one slightly stronger server holding the 500 mailboxes.

We are going to be using Mimecast so mailboxes wont be too big and once they reach their size limit archiving will take place.

Mimecast will be filtering our email thus I don't see it necessary for an edge server (Your thoughts on this would be great)

If we go the one typical server per site route I was going to go with the following:

Dell t320

INTEL XEON E5-2420 1.90GHZ, 15M CACHE, 7.2GT/S QP

32 Gig Ram

4 x 900 GB SAS IN RAID 10 Setup (Probably Overkill But Drives Arent Expensive)

VMware VS non VMware deployment (Your thoughts)

IF we go the one server route I was planing on the the following:

Dell T720

INTEL XEON E5-2630 2.30GHZ, 15M CACHE, 7.2GT/S QPI

32 GIG RAM

4 x 900GB SAS IN RAID 10 Setup

Currently our WAN lines are only 2mb between sites, thus the reason I'm scared of going this route for the traffic that might be generated for remote clients connecting to the exchange server.

Any help will be really appreciated from experienced users who have deployed various scenarios.

Much Appreciated

Shaun.
