Need some ideas to setup a 2nd office (physically separate location)
Currently the Main site has a Windows 2003 Server with 25 users
I need to add a 2nd site which will have 6-7 possibly a max of around 15 in a couple years time.
Main site has a very poor ADSL connection around 6k so would need to use improve the connection - perhaps bonded
Cloud email is not an option. Users will need to access Files and emails from the main site
Number of users is small but heavy email users. As far as connecting to remote site users I suppose I simply need to set same IP range and point the DNS to the main site on a Site-Site VPN.. My main concern is poor connectivity.
Alternatively, I could setup a DC at the new site but I'm not sure about the Link (Speed and quality)
Options as I see them are:
Terminal Services - currently using RDP to a couple of desktops. But generally users don't like it & speed varies.
Site - Site VPN - I guess the slow connection might be an issue (hopefully bonding 2+ channels will help)
I guess the main issue is Exchange - (single Internet domain)
Would Exchange allow split location ie. allow the 2nd site to have its own local Exchange server (or subset of Exchange) ie. a container Site 2 users but connected to the Main site are there is only one internet Domain. The 2nd would get incoming emails from
Main site but send out locally.
Last couple of days Googled & searched MS site but can't seem to find out if this is possible with Exchange. Obviously larger sites with multi-location must need to do this.
Can anyone point me to resource where I can find out if 2 locations are possible. I need to Spec it produce a Budget in less than a week !
