We want to migrate an All-in-one Exchange 2010 server to Exchange 2013.
I have some question before migrating so I can correctly plan the migration.
Our environment is as follow:
We have split brain DNS:
internal DNS zone = contoso.com
external DNS zone = contoso.com
The Exchange 2010 server is configured as follow:
Exchange 2010 server = EX2010
internal URLs = autodiscover.contoso.com , exchange.contoso.com/owa , exchange.contoso.com/ecp , exchange.contoso.com/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync , exchange.contoso.com/oab
external URLS = autodiscover.contoso.com , exchange.contoso.com/owa , exchange.contoso.com/ecp , exchange.contoso.com/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync , exchange.contoso.com/oab
all internal URLS directly point to the IP of the Exchange 2010 server
all external URLS point to a TMG which publishes the Exchange 2010 server
We want to configure the Exchange 2013 server as follow:
Exchange 2013 server = EX2013
internal URLs = autodiscover.contoso.com , exchange.contoso.com/owa , exchange.contoso.com/ecp , exchange.contoso.com/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync , exchange.contoso.com/oab and exchange.contoso.com is for Outlook anywhere
external URLS = autodiscover.contoso.com , exchange.contoso.com/owa , exchange.contoso.com/ecp , exchange.contoso.com/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync , exchange.contoso.com/oab and exchange.contoso.com is for Outlook anywhere
we want to point the internal URLS directly to the IP of the Exchange 2013 server
we want to point the external URLS to the TMG which publishes the Exchange 2013 server
All our clients are already connecting by RPC/HTTPS to the Exchange 2010 server.
This means if we switch the autodiscover.contoso.com & exchange.contoso.com URLs , clients directly connect to Exchange 2013 CAS.
Will this work correct if Mailboxes are still on Exchange 2010 server?
Some other questions I have are regarding Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 migration:
Do the "Address List" need to be moved or migrated to Exchange 2013, or do we or the Exchange 2013 setup create new ones?
We have Retention Policy Tags do these need to be moved or migrated to Exchange 2013, or do we or the Exchange 2013 setup create new ones?

We use Archiving and thus we have an Archive database, is it possible to move a user mailbox to Exchange 2013 database and keep the Archive mailbox for this user on the Exchange 2010 server/database during coexistence?
