Users Cannot Delete Email Using OWA After Exchange 2013 Brought Online

Upgrading Exchange from 2010 to 2013 is no simple matter with many details so I'm just going to say that we've installed 2013 to coexist with out existing 2010 exchange system. The 2013 server is handling the OWA logins and proxying the users over to their mailboxes that still reside on the 2010 servers.  They can login and have access to their mailboxes but when they try to delete emails they get the error message: "An unexpected error occurred and your request couldn't be handled."  The error details are: "Access is denied.  Check credentials and try again."

Now for the screwy part, they can double-click the email message and open it in a window.  Once it's open, they can click the "X" to delete the message and the message is successfully deleted.  If the message is a thread, they have to open each one individually to delete them.  Once the messages are in the "Deleted Items" folder they have to do the same thing again in order to delete the messages.  They cannot just tell it to Empty Folder and they can't highlight several messages at once and delete them.  It has to follow the pattern of opening each message and individually deleting them.  As can be expected, this is making some users angry.  Especially those that get a lot of junk mail and have tons of email to delete every morning.

This is not a problem at all when the users connect to the exchange server using the Outlook Client.  Everything works properly when this method is used to access email.

Help!
