Install Exchange 2013 in Exchange 2003 forest

All,

Our company is running Exchange 2003 Server and planing to Exchange 2013. We understand that Exchange 2003 cannot migrate to Exchange 2013 directly. Can we install Exchange 2013 in same forest and then migrate mailbox item using third party tool (such as Quest tool). After all mailboxes items migrated, uninstall Exchange 2003 in forest. Is it work solution ?
